Golovkin’s been stripped of the ibf, has never held the wbo and at this point will never unify all four belts. He’s at the point where he doesn’t need the belts, they need him. Like Cotto and Clenelo before him he should just say to hell with the wbc and keep every penny for himself. Sulimain has humiliated himself with his shameless support for Clenelo. Does anybody know if there’s any contract language that says GGG must put the wbc trinket on the line?

Without that belt on the line, the fight would sell vastly less PPV.

Hardcore fans might not care too much, but the casuals?

I didn’t think of that, but now that I do I don’t think the wbc belt would factor in. The fight could /would still be billed for the lineal championship and possibly the Ring belt. All of the powers that be know how to promote this fight with the wbc belt being on the line.

He should have never cared about the darn belts as much as he did from the start.

Why? He wanted to make history. I can’t fault a guy for doing that.

It would be a funny FU to the WBC. But no, he should keep his belts and try to unify.

He isnt unifying. He already said no to Charlo. All he's always been after is money.

Charlo doesn't have a belt so why would that be an indication he is not willing to unify?

Why? The WBC are more than happy with him fighting Alvarez.

Casuals probably wouldn’t even know which one was the champ until they entered the ring.

Nobody cares about what belts are at stake as long as it’s a “title fight” for the Middleweight Championship.
