To be fair byrd kept holding his hand out and obstructing his vision in that, sorry to say, feminine way he always does. But yeah at a certain point tua shoukd have just gone for it and mauled him come hell or high water
I've revisited his record and it looks a classic case of someone eventually finding their level. He reached elite level but lost to Lewis and Ike, before retreading himself and beating a few fellow retreads, Moorer etc. No shame in losing to peak( ish) Lewis, I remember the fight, pretty dull.
No it is a fantasy of a rocky film. Tua had equal if not more power than shavers and got more stamina and a much better chin he wins early and easy. Was bigger, faster and stronger. Tua always traded ,he did with rahman or ike.. Against lewis he simply got frustrated because lewis was the one very cautious and just did out box tua
Tua got cautious because he felt that right hand of Lewis and he didn't like it. He basically pretended like he was coming after him the rest of the night. Lewis was playing with him. Easiest fight he ever had. I guess it was a sane decision. Not the stuff of champions.
That Shavers had incredible power. The hardest puncher from the 70s for sure. If he connects on Tua David may not have a choice. He won't feel much.
If he connects on tua , david would walk like nothing and simply destroys shavers like a skinny insect. Or maybe shavers would not have even chance to land anything
If quarry stopped shavers in 1 i have no problem seeing tua doing the same thing in brutal fashion. Shavers had hitting power but it was all about crazy shots over right hand, open left hook, no jab no important skill, crappy finisher, mediocre stamina... Tua would bomb him out early... Stylistically and physically tua>>>>>>> shavers
Hurt maybe with the perfect shot but stopping him definitely not. Shavers was sloppy and a crappy finisher
The part that doesn’t work about the Tyson comparisons is that Tyson had really quick feet and Tua had cement feet. In a lot of fights, it was pretty much impossible for him to close the gap.
Last time checked for a trimmed 214lb modern HW, the fellow was even lighter than Louis! Another time I had to hand a helping mind crutch on this forum, subtracting a 185lb "HW" fellow, the equation showed a good double-digit result....
