    I don’t know about a mediocre chin...

He had 68 fights and was only stopped twice. The first time it took about 100 right hands over 12 rounds to put him away by Max Schmeling, a big puncher

The second time..he was 37 year old against massive punching Marciano who wore him down over 8 rounds

I think louis was prone to being floored while off balance, but he has excellent recuperative powers and was never knocked out by only one punch

I think the difference in class would outweigh any stylistic differences between Louis and Young or Quarry. Louis was simply the better fighter by a pretty big margin.

Frankly this thread seems a tad offensive to Louis. Should we really be comparing him to someone like Lyle. I think Lyle vs Braddock or Lyle vs Elmer Ray would be a better matchup.

Well Lyle gave two ATG’s in Foreman and Ali a tough ride, so I don’t think it’s outrageous to ask how he’d fare against Louis.

Mediocre my arse. The guy went over a decade and a half vs all comers and got stopped once in a learning fight where he took dozens upon dozens upon dozens right hands.

60+ fights! How is that having a mediocre chin?

Ali was well past it in 1975 i dont think this equates to Lyle having any success whatsoever with a prime Ali.

True, but he was stunned a decent amount of times, but was stunned by guys who were meh about following up their perceived advantage. So I'd say the lack of other stoppages might have a little luck involved.

Well, he was definitely lucky to be in an era in which monsters like Leon Spinks didn't become champ.

Ron Lyle is the most overrated fighter in boxing history.

    Joe Louis would hammer him.

Well, he would easily be the best puncher a young Louis faced....

    Would he?

What three ranked contenders would you name who he knocked out?

Ron Lyle was there to brawl it out with the strongest heavy hitters, one time against Shavers, one time against George. Louis better gets him hurt first....

Name me one puncher in Lyles league that Louis put down.

I don't know that Shavers was ranked when he met Lyle but he might have been. That's one.

    He lost to Foreman.

I'd name about a dozen punchers that Louis beat with these pathetic credentials.

Considering the amount of his bum club, I guess that shouldn´t be a problem.
