I like him as a fighter. He's clearly very skilled and apart from the run fest against GGG, he generally stands his ground. I intensely dislike his A Side diva antics and he's become quite the heel imo.
I like him as a boxer because he has an exciting style but as a person for me he has lost reputation during his cheating. IMO it's a bad signal for the sport of boxing that the rematch happens directly although Canelo was banned for 6 month. Golovkin should have fought Saunders. But I will watch the rematch anyway
I'm a massive fan of Canelo, love his fights and think he is a legit top 10 P4P boxer. I thought he beat Lara and Trout (fights some people thought he lost) but had him losing big against both Floyd and GGG. However, the way he has handled along with GBP the rematch with GGG is despicable...they should hang their heads in shame, but I'm afraid it seems DLH lost the sense of shame a long time ago. As for the question he's probably no more famous as he was before.
Has plenty of fans and plenty of haters. That's a popular boxer. Love or hate is irrelevant what matters is people care.
I was a bit of a fan he is an exciting fighter at the top of his game. But since he started with the catch weight thing I went off him cuz it was clearly bull **** and just away to gain an advantage over his opponent.
After Canelo beats GGG, he'll be the legitimate star of the sport and everyone will forget the controversy. Controversy sells, Oscar was smart to pay GGG the money he wanted.
I am not sure Canelo is that well thought of and I am talking about before the steroid thing. He has a fanbase but that is because of his country, and that fanbase followed Chavez and many guys. But to say he has a fanbase like Hagler did for example. I am not sure yet. Oscar is overrating the popularity of Canelo
I enjoy his fights so if that makes me a fan then YES. I disagree with his logic at times like saying he's not a true MW then dragged Cheeseburger Jr in the ring for a horrible fight. The tainted meat BS story and jerking GGG around but still enjoy him inside the ring.
