    Walcott and schmeling were not even close to lyle in hitting power department not even in the same phrase their names

    Incredible, then, that they a) knocked out way, way, way, way, way more ranked fighters b) cracked way more elite chins c) knocked out fighters in world title fights.

    Funny how Lyle's incredible power translated into almost nothing of tangible value in actual boxing.

    It's almost as if being able to hit hard was only part of the equation.

    But, obviously that will turn out to be wildly wrong for some reason.

    That DID happen.


    But, no, he was not "hurt badly."

    He was up and back in the ring 4 seconds later and won what little was left of the round.

    Correct, Walcott and Schmeling are miles ahead of Lyle as fighters.

    Schmeling and walcott would get raped easy by foreman. And i would not be surprised if lyle knocked both them the **** out... Lyle was much better than abe simon and baer stopped schmeling... Lyle was heavier than baer better technically and did hit just as hard.
    Schmeling got stopped by the greats
    Max diekmann record (0-0-1) ,larry gains in 2, gipsy daniels kod schmeling in 1

    Yes yes "he was green , he did not eat well that day, he was with a prostitute 1 day before of the fight" blahblahblah
    Ron lyle could pretty well destroy walcott and schmeling

    Hey John; always love your insight; I'm sure your tongue was clearly in your cheek with that comment. I'm simply reversing eras here. A prime 70's Louis would have chopped down a prime late 30's-early 40's Lyle.

    Ron Lyle at the end of the day did sfa. He was a good boxer nothing more nothing less. You want to rate him 99% on taking Foreman life and death.

    Ron lyle fought in the best hw era in history and he was the only man in history that could put the all time great george foreman in the canvas twice and early( no stamina problem) . he did beat oscar bonavena,kod brutally earnie shavers, killed mathis in 2, did beat jimmy ellis, 98-6 goyo peralta, joe bugner and gave foreman everything he could handle, and did pretty well vs Ali, and the man did start pretty late his career, he was golden medal in the amateurs and probably would have destroyed norton... You should give him credit he was no can

    Which is true.

    Its becoming funny when aksed "what ranked boxer" did Lyle beat, when most of the ranked boxers in Louis era were simply:

    a) not good
    b) no heavyweights

    Louis did not beat strong H2H HW boxers. Its simply as that. Who´s the best fighter he beat: Walcott? 180lb Schmeling?

    Any Foremans on that list that were dropped? Any Shavers that were beat? What Lous did was beeing extremely consistent beating that type of Cruisers and shitty big man. You can give him that. But he didn´t beat fullblown big good HWs.

    I don't see Lyle in quite as poor light as McGrain.

    But I would say he loses to Louis just about every time.

    He would always have a bit of a chance of a Rahman- Lewis (1) kind of outcome, but Louis was technically better than Lewis and that's not too likely.

    Whether he would do better than Buddy is another question. I expect he would.

    But that in itself wouldn't be enough to beat Joe.

    It's "potentially" true, "arguably" true. There is also a chance Louis may have walked thru him, a very realistic one.

    I can´t say it often enough: What does the ranking system tell if all fighters participating among that ranking system are highly different. Absurd.
