Was Charles Martin genuinely terrible or just got caught cold?

    truly awful...

He got put down by exactly the same very basic shot twice, within 20 seconds... same shot, same move, same everything.....

I think the $8.5 million payday got to him. After the second knockdown Martin probably preferred to enjoy that money shopping instead of spending it on medical bills, which is why he stayed down. Martin most likely could've got off the canvas and gave a better effort, but he looked like he couldn't wait to spend that money.

Despite losing in such an embarrassing fashion Martin looked more happy losing than Joshua did winning.

He isn't as bad as he was made out to be due to how one-sided the match played out. He was out of his depth no matter how you slice it, but on a different day (or if they fought ten times) you probably wouldn't get a replica of exactly that result. He was a relatively weak paper champ, yes, but that gets exaggerated; he was also caught cold.

His head isn't in the game. The guy finally got his shot, and then -

"He walked the ring in a FOG ! "

"Terrible" isn't a fair word for Martin. He was FAR from elite, and got beaten by a much better foe.

He is truly awful, said so before the fight, said Joshua would walk right through him. Joshua never even got out of first gear, he KO'ed Martin without even really trying. He'd been working on the counter right for a while and every time he threw it, it worked.

If anyone saw the Martin preparing for the fight you knew he had no chance, he was using a strength and conditioning coach for the first time and was groaning like he was giving birth. There are mums on Mumsnet who do pilates with better core strength, lol.

Martin is a fringe contender - at best - who got lucky to be maneuvered into a title shot, won it on a fluke, and was predictably starched as soon as he faced somebody decent. That's who he is, accept it.

Martin was out of his depth. He was maybe a top 20-25ish guy.
That combined with the enormous payday, I think he
realized the jackpot ramifications and said............ **** it.

He could come back and beat some guys, but his window is narrowing. There are a LOT of good prospects coming up fast.

He could still be a player for a minute, but in two years, he is relegated to fringe contender/high end gatekeeper.
