Never rated Shane that highly as a trainer/corner man tbh. Think he's a top nutritionist/conditioner tho. I think that's what gets him through atm. Thats been my opinion of him anyway. But fair play to the guy he's doing well. Think its great to see young guys like him getting the chance. Good guy as well imo. Few mistakes made along the way....comes across to me like someone that gets a lot wrong believing he's right...thats an age thing tho. But the stuff he does get right he get very right allowing him to learn on the job without costing his fighters... mostly anyway. Not sure he's got real ability to be a top top trainer...but with his great conditioning work etc. Learning as he goes along and experience he's picking up and being a genuinely decent boy open to learning he,ll end up a very good trainer. Look forward to him proving me wrong and being a top trainer tho.
He is very young for a trainer at the level he has been at, he is only 30 years old. I think it's just an experience thing, those nervous moments will be ironed out over the coming years. That why Tibbs is there, he'll settle Shane over the next year or two and he'll grow in to a very good trainer and won't seem to panic or go blank as much in pressure situations.
Fighters make trainers , most champions are produced by years of hard work by non paid club coaches. To have a ready made boxer delivered into the professional game must be like Christmas for the majority of high profile coaches like Shane McGuigan ! He must have ability and his success with Frampton , Groves and Taylor will no doubt ensure that more talented fighters will join his stable. Do I think there are more talented trainers ... ?
The population of ulster is actually greater than the population of n Ireland so it could be argued that the ulster title is more difficult to win than the national?
I was pissed in China and responded hastily. I have apologised to moog in private my abrasive response was unnecessary. BTW there is no ni national title, ni boxing is incorporated with the rest of Ireland similar to rugby. My main point still stands though the ulster's is not that high a standard equivalent to a central area at Pro level. Anyway he's young and decent and imo needs to improve when under pressure he appears to flap a bit in the corner.
alchohol.... always a valid excuse !!! Moog will be cool as others have said he is a decent poster... He is a fellow Glasgow boy im sure so just on that basis he is one of the better ones !!
