Was Charles Martin genuinely terrible or just got caught cold?

Martin built his record on having physical advantages over his opponents. He had none against Joshua and looked awful as a result.

Looks like he’s gonna fight Kownacki and try for a shot at Wilder if he manages to win. Might have to face Ortiz first though.

I'd rate those versions of Arreola and Stiverne above Glazkov and Martin.

He was the worst boxer to ever hold a heavyweight title.

    The worst.

Everyone who ever held a version of a heavyweight title beats Charles Martin.

impossible to say seeing as he was overpaid simply for a marketing trinket, i refuse to believe he was/is that bad, but he won the lottery against glaskov then cashed out. far from a winning mentality how ever you look at it. he had no intention of fighting joshua. i suspect he was paid that much not to.

What evidence is there that he was better than the worst?

Any heavyweight in the world could've been in the ring with Glazkov and been named "the champ" when Glazkov injured HiMSELF and had to quit.

Literally any heavyweight. I think Czar had two wins that didn't go two rounds. Everyone else Glazkov faced in his career could've won that night just like Charles Martin did just by still being able to stand.

Martin's best actual win is probably over Joey Dawejko when Dawejko had eight wins. That's it. That's all Martin's got in terms of accomplishments.

He was the worst. Never beat anyone before he got a title. Never beat a reigning champ. Never actually beat the guy who he got the belt against (his opponent injured himself). Wiped out early in his first defense. Has fought no one of note since.

    There's nothing there.

He’s better than Michael Bentt ever was, if that guy counts.

Yep he's never beaten anyone even half decent, just fought a bunch of people nobody has ever heard of then lucked out by getting a title shot and having his opponent injure themselves. Audley Harrison has better genuine wins on his resume than Martin. Has there ever been a boxer who did so little to be a heavyweight title holder? Even guys that were gifted vacant titles usually had to beat someone half decent in an eliminator before hand.

Michael Bentt is one of the worst title holders ever no doubt but he did KO Morrison in 1 round, that's way better than anything on Martin's resume.

I'd pick Herbie Hide to KO Martin too, probably faster than he did Bentt.

Audley Harrison would've been the heavyweight champion if he'd been in the ring with Czar Glazkov that night.

Michael Bentt was also a world-class amateur and was America's top choice to win the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics before he was upset by Ray Mercer in the Trials and Box-offs.

I could have been heavyweight champion if I'd been in the ring with Glazkov that night. I'm an OK runner, could easily run for 3x3min rounds and wait til Glazkov's glass ankle shatters.

Martin is a 6’5 southpaw. Bentt would lose to him. Glazkov was gonna lose anyway. I’m not convinced Morrison would beat him.

Martin has never lost to a C lister, only Joshua.

Bentt never lost to a southpaw, does that mean he beats Martin? Your reasoning for your choice is illogical. Maybe Martin does beat Bentt, if he did it would be the best win on his resume by far.

Maybe Martin never lost to a C lister but then the 1 C lister he fought lost due to an injury and everyone else Martin fought were D listers. So Martin never genuinely beat a C lister either.

Don't get how people can watch Martin fight and can't see that he's truly awful. Balance is awful, footwork awful, chin in the air, jab is an arm punch etc. He's Gerald Washington level of bad. He's a domestic level US heavyweight that got lucky. At least Breazeale has a good chin, heart and power to compensate for his lack of skill and craft, Martin doesn't even have that.

I'm not one to make bold fight predictions, I picked Takam to take Joshua into the 2nd half of the fight, I expected Parker to take Joshua late or points, but I confidently picked Joshua to walk right through Martin, all he really has is size and a half decent counter left hand.
