You think Duran gave Hagler troubles? Emile Griffith was bigger, immensely stronger and just as clever as Duran. Maybe Hagler wins the first one, but it would be an outrageously bad decision, and Griffith wins a very close rematch. That is, if the officials are honest and not "fab four" junkies.
Hagler himself is usually the one who improves in rematches. I always put this down to a lack of adaptability (comparative to some others on his level) on the go and a sub par corner to be honest.
Exactamundo. Real good point and one that reared its head from time to time. So many things can cost a fighter the bout. But we saw Marvin doing this exact thing against Vito and to a lesser degree, Geraldo. Another thing with Marvin is what Leonard said before their bout. He's mechanical. He really is and the opponents that can read him give him problems. I think Griffith is certainly that style of fighter that is a top notch reader, if you will. But Marvin and that conditioning and southpaw style present its own set of problems for Griffith.
