I've always thought that Hagler at his best, fighting in the wheelhouse like he did against Hearns, would be too much for Golovkin. In the Ouma fight a lesser fighter than MMH was able to stand his ground for quite a while using such tactics. Hagler was as gritty and durable as mountain granite, and I think an inside fight would suit him better.

I've tempered that opinion recently with the following observations:

Hagler might be significantly smaller due to same day weigh in vs previous day weigh in.

Hagler sometimes showed dangerous guys too much respect and delivered a flat performance. That would be a problem if he did it against Golovkin.

I rate GGG's jab as superior to Hagler's. In an outside battle, I think the footwork and jab of Golovkin would make him win.

Hagler by beating. Ggg is a limited overrated joke like kovalev. Ggg has no chance against monzon, hagler, robinson, jones, hopkins or toney. Michael nunn would out box him too

Both men would fight differently because of the other mans strengths. Its a distance fight & could go either way If 3G fought a little more defensivly I would favor him but MMH may be able to pile up some points. 3G could put on the Duran pressure that Hagler did not really like (Antufermo 1, Duran) but I see a close decision and maybe a series. Too bad 3G did not have the luxury of the big names Hagler had but if he gets past Canelo and still has a few fights left he has a few Big names & co champs to unify against

I think Marvin was deceptive. He looked smaller and quieter in public or conferences, but he was a tough guy who was strong and underrated on power. 52 knockout in 62 wins. He had two ways to go southpaw and orthodox and had a 75 inch reach, which is near lightheavyweight reach. And he could box as well as punch, which he did so well. His style early on was to pick guys apart slowly and take over. Rather methodical at times, which sort of created some of his unimpressive fights, but when he was on and had guys coming at him or were aggresive he was at his best. He was motivated by guys hitting him, which made it hard for guys to build momentum on him. I don't see how GGG could do anything with Marvin Hagler. Marvin would be just as strong if not physically stronger. GGG's reach I think is 70, but I am not sure. That is a big disadvantage since Marvin was 75, and to think Marvin would not use that.. With Marvin's southpaw style I think he takes over and stops GGG in a rather exciting fight in about 7 rounds. I see it a little more competitive than Sibson vs. Hagler, but a similar result. Marvin was just too good and too solid. He was not one of those guys GGG would hurt or swarm. No way. GGG would look ordinary and the weaker man with Marvin. That is my take.

    Pretty good up to here.

Then you had to go and spoil it. Not a chance in hell.

I think Hagler might outwork him inside, but boxing from the mid range is Golovkin's bread and butter. Both these guys have incredible chins and while I might tip Hagler as being the harder chinned (based on no weakness on GGG's part, but rather on how tested Hagler was) I think Golovkin hits substantially harder. I completely fail to see a mid rounds stoppage, least of all for Hagler.

lets wait till we see if 3g can win at elite level first, before that is unfair comparison what with gennady still active.

I can see it just on the fact Marvin loved to use his jab and jump in with his right hands and break people's faces up. I didn't say he would necessarily knock GGG down, but he would stop him on cuts. Marvin could be a good boxer and had a good jab and could punch. Like I said 52 knockouts in 62 fights.

    Ok. It's a reasonable opinion.

I'm not going to debate it further because I don't want to dump on Hagler, who was a truly top shelf fighter.
