Oh, please tell us about the great Tommy Morrison. Please do. Did you ever see him live? Were you around for the ballyhoo and machinations that brought him to the fore? Do you remember the opinion of the boxing community during that time? Was all that negative conjecture awaiting the proper revisionism a couple decades later?
I think Damiani would be ahead in the fight but I give Morrison a good chance of scoring a knockout at some point.
Morrison was not a significant factor in the division no matter how desperately many wanted him to be. He was a fringe contender on his best day. That is his just due.
Perhaps those who insist Tommy would quickly blow away a guy who was never blown away by better fighters than Tommy.
Damiani had fluent boxing skills but not the mental and physical toughness to match. Tommy has the edge in both departments. Morrison patiently stalks Francis before landing one of his patent left hooks late and stoppage ensures soon after.
Would be a good fight. Morrison could hit hard with his hook but could be outboxed and run out of puff he was a kill or be killed type ! Guys who brawled always ran the risk of getting sparked unless they had concrete chops like Mercer or McCall or maybe in a another universe Tyson or Mason!.Damiani was a good boxer with respectable power and a good gas tank despite the way he looked!.Morrison could take out Damiani if he lands his big shots but I think Francesco would probably stop Tommy late boxing carefully behind his jab.
Yes Tommy could be enigma . Running from Big George Foreman and tko by Michael Bentt in 93 sec. However i'm talking about the Tommy that showed incredible courage to overcome a broken jaw and a broken hand to tko Joe Hipp in 9rds.
