Both men would use the jab initially. If Hagler can outjab GGG, he wins a decision There would be no urgency to take out GGG as the fight would be fought mostly on the outside.

But if GGG can outjab, or even attain parity in the jabbing contest, Hagler will move inside, using his shifting stances to create angles in punch sequences rarely seen. This second scenario would be an epic clash still going the distance, but it would be a mutually debilitating fight.

I wasn't alive to watch Hagler but have watched many of his fights. I see this fight going the distance with Hagler edging it . However if GGG knocks out Canelo in September, then maybe I give the advantage to GGG.

It would be a heck of a fight. Hagler for whatever reason is gun shy and offered his opponent too much respect.

I think GGG has a better jab, and hits harder. Hagler was slightly better on the counter. Some say Hearns hurt Hagler. If he did, he's not taking many shots from GGG.

I think this could be a split decision type of match.

Funny that GGG might knock Canelo out or funny that GGG could be favored over Hagler?

Well I think Hagler was more of a complete fighter technically, he was better on his feet. However GGG of 2013-2014 was also very quick on his feet and seemed to have this raw power that could knock out any middleweight. So far his power hasn't translated to elite competition, that is why I said if he knocks out Canelo, then he could possibly stop Hagler in his prime.

The difference is that you didn't ever have to go looking for Hagler. To KO Canelo GGG is going to have to chase him all night and then try to land something significant on what is a very elusive fighter. Two completely different animals. Hagler took you apart bit by bit whereas Canelo tries to fight in spurts and evade the rest of the time. If Hagler's chin wasn't so darn good, I'd say Canelo is harder to KO.

Although GGG had Canelo cornered a few times and had his chance to exchange with him, I do agree.

There are levels and Golovkin is not on Hagler's, in my opinion.

    Hagler W UD12 [Wide].

A stoppage is less likely but possible.

    I can't believe we're still debating this.

GGG had his chance to justify his reputation as an ATG in his last two fights. He either edged/drew/got edged by Jacobs depending on who was scoring, but he certainly didn't dominate. Same outcome with Canelo. If he had blitzed through those two and lived up to his hype, maybe there would be more of a legitimate question.

    I agree with this.
I honestly don't see what GGG brings to the table that Hagler couldn't deal with.

    Hagler UD-12 or TKO-14.

GGG hit harder, both had incredible chins, Marvin was better at EVERYTHING else, had a 6-3 vs 5-10 reach, and was southpaw.
