    1943 Mauriello no2 . Ray 0
    1944 Mauriello no2 . Ray 8
    1945 Mauriello no2 . Ray 4
    1946 Mauriello no1 . Ray 2
Was Ray ever ranked above Mauriello?

Ray was ranked number 1 in 1947 after he beat prime versions of Charles and Walcott

How would mauriello have done against Charles and Walcott?

We know how he did against Gus Lesnevich

How would a 17 and 18 years old Ray have done with Lesnevich? We know how a 26 years old Ray did with
    John Henry Lewis!lol
ps Maureillo was retired in1947 so totally irrelevant!

Keep avoiding the question...who was better Ray or Mauriello? Let’s hear your answer.

Mauriello was only 23 years old when he was defeated twice by lesnevhich in 1947 while weighing 200lb and coming off a title sho Yet you gonna write these victories off?

I think it’s quite clear to any smart man who has studied rays career that he did not hit his prime until he met up with manager tommy oloughlin in the 40s where he went 74-3 with two victories over prime ATGs. The only top white fighter willing to fight him, savold, got demolished in 2 rounds

But next time we discuss Walcott bring up all his losses in the 1930s like you’re doing to Ray

Tami was surely the more accomplished welterweight!

I brought up one loss, when he was 26 and stopped by a 23 years old light heavyweight Lewis.

Yes. Ray was nowhere near his prime when the fight took place. We don’t know if Rays listed age is actually correct or not. What we do know is Ray didn’t hit his peak until the mid 1940s several years after Lewis beat him.

Mauriello lost to lesnevhich 4 times, 2 pre prime and 2 in his prime.

Only Walcott, Thompson, and Charles were able to beat a prime Ray

I have a feeling that if I had been around at the time, I would probably have said Mauriello, base on him holding his ranking over a significantly longer period.

I would also probably have seen Mauriello as being more deserving of a title shot than Ray.

Of course what I would not have known, is that Walcott and Charles would go on to win the lineal heavyweight title.

Without that factoid, these two wins would not appear so remarkable, and Ray's resume would look very heavily dependent on them.

Or, if you were around in that time, you could have been one of those writers who was comparing Ray to Sam Langford.

Impossible to say what I would have thought of Ray after seeing him in action.
