I fancy Usyk over Gassiev, but this one is close. Gassiev is a beast and if he manages to work the body early, and slow Usyk down, we could be looking at a late stoppage. I'm not sure I'd bet on it.
I don't see how it can possibly be close: Either Usyk will completely shut down Gassiev's offense, and cruise to a very WIDE decision, or Gassiev will get to Usyk early, and take him out. I don't see how they could trade evenly for more than a 1-2 rounds, without Usky getting KTFO. ------------------ Of course, I've been wrong before.
The judges will not be Russians, my friend. Usyk got a generously wide decision against a Pole in Poland. The judges were American, English and Hungarian, and the ref was American. Usyk won a majority decision in Latvia against a Latvian. The judges were two Canadians and an American. The ref was an American. It has already happened in Poland and Latvia. There is no reason to expect anything different in Russia. As I mentioned earlier, judges love his style. And we all know who everyone wants to win here. The judges will know it too. And as I mentioned in another post, Russians do not hate Ukrainians. They actually consider them fellow countrymen. They speak the same language and have everything in common, including a shared past. Brezhnev was a Ukrainian. Stalin was a Georgian. They all fought the Great War together, competed on the same Olympic teams, went to outer space together. If Usyk wins he will be respected.
Usyk by Saunders-Lemieux like schooling. He'll put on a Loma like masterclass. It will be so dominant, no one will be able to rob him.
Usyk will have to box smart but may end up losing rounds for being too tentative. He''ll have to show some aggression to secure a victory. Either way this is a fight between two elites and will certainly be a close result unless somebody stops the other.
