I was speaking to a pro trainer recently and he told me that it is illegal to tie the lace of the gloves off at the bottom of the cuff and it has to be tied off at the top, which is the furthest part of the glove, from the hand. It has to be tied at the top before been taped. He said that refs feel the glove to make sure it is tied there.
Now I know the ref feels the glove to make sure the leather connecter between the thumb and the glove hasn't been cut but I didn't know about the lacing.
I managed to have a look in a old rules book and I couldn't see anything about this but it was an old version.
Does anyone know if you have to tie off at the top by rule?

I always tie the gloves at the bottom. I make a tie at the top, then twist the strings around each other until they reach the indention at the bottom of the glove then wrap it around and tie it. I've done it that way in 5 states with an inspector watching and I've never had a problem with it. Of course that could change next time. The last time I tied gloves the inspector told me not to place the string onto the back of the glove and try to force the padding tighter. That was the first time an inspector ever mentioned it. That was an old "trick" that probably worked better with horse hair gloves than the foam gloves.
