Which Universal Soldier was it, there's been a handful of very inferior sequels, was it the one from 92? Because I loved it, Dolph Lundgren and his necklace of ears was badass. He and Van Damme do a fine job IMO. I love Hong Kong shoot 'em ups, but they can get a little paint by numbers, and all blend into one another, kind of like chop socky films.
Russell is forgetting about something as well. This content is protected Van Damme and Woo working together was awesome.. and resulted in a complete classic of action films. East meets West meshed perfectly. I wish they would have done more stuff..... Even today something would be cool, Van Damme isn't too old.
Brutally underrated flick, and anything with Lance Henriksen as the bad guy is always a huge plus in my book!!! And Yancy Butler was ****ing hot. Hell the last two Kickboxer films have been badass with Van Damme training Alain Moussi in both of them. I'll watch anything with Jean-Claude in it.
Full Contact is one of a dozen flicks that came out in a five year period in HK that were all as good as Hard Target, which we've now strangely switched to... Hard Target was amazing because of Woo and in spite of constant and heavy cuts and issues to his original work on the film. That movie was good in spite of the fact that East completely tried to ruin the film...
Strange? Weren't you the one one who interjected randomly about Hong Kong flicks and how they stacked up to Universal Soldier - When it was the work of Michael Bay, Paul W.S Anderson and Roland Emmerich that was being discussed? Bringing up Hard Target is more than relevant considering the direction in which you veered the conversation.
I thought the Kickboxer reboots were absolute **** in all honesty but Van Damme did a great job in them. Have you checked out Jean-Claude Van-Johnson? I will eternally hate Amazon Prime for canceling that after one season. It's great.......
I've seen Full Contact, it was okay. But Ringo Lam is too derivative of Woo IMO, the only reason to watch it is the star appeal of Chow Yun Fat. Speaking of Chow, God I wish he'd go back to making violent shoot 'em ups instead artsy bull**** with Yimou and Lee.
No, I haven't, somehow that's never found its way onto my radar, I tend to ignore stuff produced by Amazon Prime and Hulu, only recently have I forced myself to care about Netflix series. The first of the two Moussi Kickboxer's was preferable, because it had the most Jean Claude, the last one with Mike Tyson was okay, but not nearly as good. They were servicable decent DOV flicks, nothing more nothing less, but for what they were, they were decent.
Just came back from the cinema and watched the new Dwayne Johnson movie "Skyscraper". It's a good one, looks bit like Die hard LIGHT version in 2018 with some really sick camera angles. I would give a 7/10.
Speaking of Roland Emmerich films, Brad Peyton does a far better job at Roland Emmerich films than Roland Emmerich does, I thought Duane's San Andreas was one of the most underrated disaster flicks I've ever seen, that being said, Rampage looks awful. I'm cautiously optimistic about Skyscraper.
I was hoping for some discussion based around this post. I actually put some effort into it, I'd blocked many of these out, just remembering them traumatized me a little. Here's a list of remakes I actually like, some are better than the originals. Some of these may be polarizing. My favorite Horror remakes. The Blob The Fly The Thing (1981) Nosferatu The Vampyre The Town That Dreaded Sundown Night Of The Living Dead (1990) The Amityville Horror Last House On The Left Piranha House Of Wax The Hills Have Eyes Evil Dead Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Cape Fear The Ring Maniac When A Stranger Calls The ones I hate the most. The Fog Halloween Halloween II The Crazies Dawn Of The Dead The Wicker Man Psycho Friday The 13th Fright Night Poltergeist Flatliners Sorority Row Nightmare On Elm Street The Thing (Remake of 81) Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Hitcher Carnival Of Souls Red Dragon My Bloody Valentine The Haunting The Omen Black Christmas
Not sure about that actually. The Rock is worth 4 of Emmerich's best films. Aside from Universal Soldier, Stargate, The Patriot, ID4 1&2 and Stonewall, and they're not even that good... he's made some top tier dog****. Like makes Armageddon and Pearl Harbor look brilliant, Day After Tomorrow, 2012, 10,000 BC, Godzilla and White House Down are next level crap. I think if Bay put forth a hint of effort he could make a better film with one hand tied behind his back.
San Andreas is definitely underrated, yes. I just can't agree with the reviews and the critical reaction. And I liked Rampage. Jumanji also a pretty good movie. Last week i saw the new Purge movie. Also a good one. But there are some pretty decent movies coming up to the cinemas this year. Ant-Man and the Wasp Mission Impossible Fallout Sicario 2 The Nun Venom Halloween Meg The Equalizer 2 Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Predator Aquaman
I'm definitely reserving judgment on Rampage, I thought San Andreas looked bad from the trailer s too. I love the entire Purge franchise dearly, in spite of how SJW it is, you should check out Bushwick if you're a fan of them, it easily equals them, I can't wait for the new one, I tend to wait until they officially come out on DVD, so I can watch the Blu-Ray on my HD 43 inch with surround sound, I don't waste my time watching anything off the net, and I hate going to the theaters at this point, its getting to be highway robbery. Agree, that whole list is solid, and even more solid when you throw in the Suspiria remake an The Predator.
