Most sources cried robbery for Clay over Doug Jones. I think Clay won it, but he had to scrap like a dog.

Quite a few people think Martinez won the first fight with Paul Williams, while he landed the harder shots, I couldn't eliminate what Paul landed and the frequency.

Not watched it for a while but I remember thinking SRL won more rounds, and therefore the fight, against MMH.

Agreed that SRL deserved the draw in the second Hearns fight. He could easily have had two 10-8 rounds. Tommy was in a far worse state at the end of the fifth and the twelfth than Ray was after either of the official knockdowns that Toomy scored, and was awarded 10-8 rounds for.

Also Moorer v Evander first fight was right. I know there was controversy as one judge scored the second a 10-10 round despite the knockdown by Evander but I thought that was right. Moorer would have won the round and a KD tends to equate to a point so Holy went from 9-10 - losing the round - to 10-10. Perfectly fair to me.

Is this thread only regarding fights that were filmed?

    Johnson Hart
The idea that this fight was a robbery fell on fertile ground, given the politics of the era, and the protestations of some sections of the media. The more this fight has been researched by Pollack and others, the more it has started to look like a controversial decision, that could potentially have been justifiable under the rules of the era. Perhaps Hart won it after all.

    Nova Gallento
This fight is renowned as one of the dirtiest foul fests in history, and many people assume that this was the major contributing factor to Galento's win. As somebody who thinks very highly of Nova, this idea fell on fertile ground with me. Studying fight reports, I came to the conclusion that Galento's win, was down in the main part to his finding ways to counter Nova. Perhaps this was a legitimate upset.

    Louis Walcott I
The majority of ringsiders had this for Walcott, and the remaining footage supports their position. That was the main evidence that people had at their disposal. The story got re told so many times, that this position solidified in peoples minds. I saw a report in the New York Times, which included some punch stats for the fight, which had Louis out landing Walcott. This got me thinking that perhaps Louis won it after all.

Trinidad/DelaHoya. That wasn't boxing that was running. Put that fight in the Blue Horizon in 1940 and the fans would have stormed the ring. His purse and license in question.

No punching for 2+ minutes of a round and a snappy flurry that only Jim Lampley thinks landed isn't out classing someone.

There is a fine line between smart movement and running/surviving. Oscar took what SRL did watered it down 70% and tried to sell it off to the boxing public.

No fault of Trinidad it's is impossible to look good when a guy is determined to just run.

    That is the Truth Ruth

To be fair, janitor, it's hard for us to agree or disagree with controversial verdicts if we haven't seen the fights although, again, to be fair, you've had a pretty good bash at it with those three. Fair play to you.

    PINTOR DID beat Zarate
    Tiberi easily beat Toney
Pedroza won against Lockridge and bum LaPrte with room to spare,.

I didn`t even know there was controversy about Holy losing to Moorer all I know is that it wa a negative fight that Moorer seem to win by default, L.Lewis said just after the fight that it looked like both men had the title thrown in the ring and both said here you take it neither really wanted it, it was listless and then news came through that holy had a hole in his heart that effected oxygen getting around his body and that`s why he was completely lackluster, as for SRL, he wasn`t the same after the Hagler fight, he was awful against Hearns, who wasn`t at his best either, I don`t think either man was quick enough while carrying that extra weight.

Ramirez was completely out boxed in his first fight with Pernell, hardly landed a punch.

When I think of the Hagler/SRL battle I try to stay unbiased since I was/am a huge Hagler fan. I suppose I could be convinced it was a controversial decision that I agree with but I still can't get past the 118-110 score for SRL. Probably should have been a draw. Ask me again in a few years. lol

God knows I'm no Ali fan, but I thought the Lyle stoppage was acceptable. Ron wasn't firing back at all.

I thought Michael Spinks beat Holmes twice.

    I thought Canelo-GGG was a justifiable draw.

I struggle to give Ali a round before the 7th of the Young fight.

Calzaghe by one round against Hopkins, I could see why someone could score it the other way though.

I also had Williams beating Martinez by one round.
