This. I can name only Wilder and Maybe Ortiz, but after the beating he took from Wilder and his age that may no longer be the case. After Wilder and Ortiz the heavyweight division is very weak.

Wilder's the only one that's arguably more difficult. I say arguably because Povetkin is a better boxer than Wilder and has the better record of opponents, but at 38 plays 32 I think his prime must be behind him.

Yes three fights to get rid of the ring rust after his ban.

As for Ortiz he was unbeaten, is taller and no one in the top 5 of the division had the guts to step into the ring with him.

Joshua ducked him even though he was mandated to fight him, which is worse than just pretending he didn't exist. That's why Wilder gets credit for fighting Ortiz, because no one else dared to. And even still, people don't give him credit for the win due to mentioning Ortiz's age and some even go one step further in preferring to believe in a conspiracy that he is even older than his official stated age.

yeh like he isnt old enough!

There was a time when fighting someone that age was only for prospects/promising contenders on the way up. A champion fighting someone that age is an embarrassment, bar the exceptions of the most outstanding fighters coming back (obviously).

Of course it would have mattered.

He was mandatory for a reason, he was unbeaten, knocking out people like bowling pins and wanted Joshua's head.

You can't call him a champion if you duck the mandatories that you don't fancy.

21 fights is no excuse. He had the opportunity to earn his biggest ever payday in one fight and he said he only feels safe fighting in England.

Tyson didn't defend his title until his 7th defense in Japan and that was not because he needed to but because boxing was being branded to a wider audience across the globe. The reason why most of his fights took place on home soil was because most of the top HW's back then, were based in America and it was lucrative for both parities to fight in Vegas which is the mecca of boxing.

As for the negotiations, any sensible boxer would turn down a flat fee offer which was far below the value of the fight which was estimated to be around 100 million. Wilder's previous purses would have been less due to the simple fact that they would not of equal value in terms of importance.

They offered him less than Parker, who many of the casuals never heard of until he was put on the bill.

I believe Wilder's side more than I believe in Hearn who have a history of lying, ducking and backtracking.

The 50 million offer was confirmed by both parties and instead of accepting it, they offered another ridiculous low ball offer, knowing Wilder wouldn't accept it.

Intentionally sending low ball offers is ducking 101.

    Why 5?

I only need to name one and that man is Deontay Wilder who offered your boy a straight 50 million guaranteed purse. The only thing which he would have had to do was fight outside England like a true Champion.

Instead he chose to play games and go for the easy stumpy old man who he knows will be routine work inside the safety of Wembley stadium to milk his fans some more.

If he was going to fight Povetkin in Russia, I could maybe give him some credit for finally being a 'World' champion.

The day when Joshua stops hiding behind his promoters/ masters I will take him more seriously.

I don't think he had much of choice when it came to ducking Wilder for this easy payday, considering his master politely advised him what he must do.

''The Deontay Wilder fight, if I was Anthony Joshua, I’d be leaving that for a little while,’

Translatio * ''if I was Joshua, I wouldn't go anywhere near that beast Wilder until he is old and stiff''

''Not because I’m worried about Deontay Wilder, but at this moment in time, maybe I’m looking at 500,000 to 600,000 pay-per-view buyers.''

Translation ''Not because I care about Wilder, but because we have much more ppv's to milk before we cash out our slave

I said to Anthony, “If you had six months to live I would say go and fight Deontay Wilder, take the most money, but if you’re saying to me that you’ve got a legacy plan then I’m saying let’s capitalise on it properly.”

Translation * If you had nothing to lose and knew you were going to die, then fight Deontay because you will be dead anyway, but since that's not the case, we have a cherry picking plan in place, which we have to capitalize and milk properly

‘That’s his decision and his team’s, because I don’t do the boxing. But it’s a credible way of doing business. If you start letting the fans be the matchmaker you’ll end up being skint.

    * Translation - If youwish to start taking the fights the fans want you to see, you can kiss goodbye to being our cash cow slave because that's not how us snakes roll.

Because of the unsupported claims and assertions you've made. If the opponent was as woeful as you've claimed it would be an easy matter to name 3, because I let you off 2 of them, better opponents. You managed one....

I never said Povetkin is woeful, he's a world class fighter in his own right.

What I am illustrating is that in this stage of his career, he poses little to no threat to a man who is almost a foot taller, 10 years his junior, whilst allowed to dope until his bones and muscles are satisfied.

This serves as nothing more than a feel and look good celebration fight for AJ.

Within 4-6 rounds this fight is over with Povetkin stopped on his feet, with the ref waving his hand in front of his face.

This is a ppv event where people are going to be be charged top premium rates just to see Joshua knock over a stumpy old man that David Price almost finished off.

"Lest we forget, this is a 38 year old, war torn, neutered, calmed down Povetkin who has still has the will but not the capabilities to trouble Joshua."

The paragraph before this you claim that Povetkin will be robbed......

The two most respected active HW's during this era on Joshua's resume, some are clearly jealous.

Two of the most respected HW'S who are past their sell by date.

In the unlikely case of Povetkin managing to put together a devastating attack, the referee will be there to break it up and/or allow Joshua to smother his work or loosen his tapes to kill the momentum

That's why I said he will get robbed if he were by the off chance managed to find some success, since anything can happen in boxing.

Though like another poster said, it would be by way of a miracle, the equivalent of a an old and wounded field rabbit taking down a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

    So what should he do?
(Nobody knows why Joshua v Wilder isn't happening yet, so that's irrelevant).

He has to either fight the guys with resume's.......
Or the next generation - Dubois etc

There isn't a better fight barring Wilder.

You're criticising a man for taking fights early and destroying the opposition.

I will be surprised if it goes past 3 rounds. Juiceshua is fighting a guy that Wlad beat over 5 years ago just to avoid the champ.

Stop dodging The Champ if you love the game.
