I hope you're right. It makes me sick what we have to pay in the UK just to watch soccer. No wonder those grey market streaming sites (okay, TOTALLY illegal streaming sites) have a bunch of customers. But the legit streaming services price packages so cleverly, and in isolation each fee doesn't seem too much. I'd be interested what it would cost me if I subscribed to all of them though. Hell, I might actually start attending sport. Radical, I know....

    Like YT, exactly.

Ads are an integral part of American corporate culture. Their routes of delivery might change but ads will very much always stay part of entertainment.

Is that free trial offered with an email address required only? Or do they ask for credit card details? I've had about 10 Netflix free trials, because all they ask for is an email address....

Well I got Box Nation and binned off Sky.

I don't get the argument, to be honest. $120 a year seems an astonishing deal to me for all that boxing, if it's as advertised.

Maybe it's because things work differently in the UK though, i'm unsure.

Boxing is just a sliver of what's on Showtime and HBO. There's a solid chance I'd have both as part of my cable package even if neither had a lick of boxing. Dig?

Yeah, boxing is a tiny sliver of what's on Sky.

I chose the boxing though. It wasn't hard. But all that means is you like tv more than me.

Eh, from what I know of Sky, though, it mostly is shite TV.

HBO and Showtime are called "premium channels" because they really have premium stuff. Theily pioneered the very concept of cinematic-quality, high-art "prestige TV".

If they (particularly HBO) were not to have blazed a trail in the 90s and early aughts, there would be no AMC today (Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc) or any of the other critically acclaimed stuff that's come out in the last decade and a half.

And they're still leading the pack and churning out well-received shows (Westworod, GoT, etc) with generally very creator-friendly deals.

Most television is trash, I hate the majority of it. Most of what's on premium cable, though, is tremendous. Overall I care most about boxing, which is why Showtime and HBO would always form the bare minimum of whatever package I have, even if their original programming went in the crapper, for as long as they remain king in that department. Which they are still, and will likely remain for the foreseeable near future

Nah, that's not true. Lots of it IS, but i've no doubt at all lots of HBO is atrocious. Lots of the shows you mentioned in the rest of your post appeared on Sky - they've partnered with HBO on a lot of stuff. Then there's National Geographic, movie channels, Sky Arts, music, football, cricket, boxing, lots of other sport, etc. It's a huge range of television. Lots of it is awful. And lots of it is really good.

This is the golden age of television. It's never been better and since the early 2000s is possibly even superior to cinema. Sopranos, Deadwood, Mad Men, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Westworld, True Detective, Fargo, Boardwalk Empire, Firefly, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, 24, The Shield, Downton Abbey, Westwing, South Park, Family Guy, House of Cards, etc.

Half of those shows aren't even remotely new and before the transitional era we're speaking of took of. There's still some good cable shows sure but it doesn't warrant a monthly cable bill. Most younger people stream those shows lol.

US fans pay 3 times the price that UK fans pay for the same PPV.....

You idiots deserve to get taken to the cleaners.

If you really want to boycott one, it should be PPV's.
