An intriguing fight coming up this weekend. Just how good is Munguia? And Liam Smith the perennial over achiever being wrote off once again...

    Munguia 1/8 win Smith 5/1
Via KO JM 8/15 LS 10/1
    Decision 11/4 Munguia, 11.5/1 Smith.

I think Sadam Ali made Munguia look absolute quality. Ali looked like a very fleshy welterweight and Munguia had no respect for his power whatsoever. Munguia was copping a few shots, he wasn’t elusive, he didn’t demonstrate good feet or angles. He simply walked Ali down and pounded him with shots.

Liam Smith as unpopular as he is on here possesses solid fundamentals and is willing to go through a war. Ali threw hardly any jabs but Smith will. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see an absolute battle of attrition between these two in a 12 rounder.

Spot on, exactly how i see it. Even after Liam Smith adjusted his tactics in rematch against Liam Williams and outboxed him there are many on here who think he has no or little boxing skills.

Why do people think Smith has over-achieved?

Yea he won a world title but it was against a terrible opponent for a world title(who won 5 of the first 6 rounds against him).

He's fought Canelo but it wasn't really competitive and he's scraped by Liam Williams twice, first time by clear headbutt. It's not like he's beat anyone he wasn't expected too.

I don't rate him like some do on here, he's solid and at a decent level but certainly hasn't over-achieved when you consider who he's fought, I think his level is pretty clear imo.

Munguia will stop him faster than Canelo did.

I’ve never seen this Munguia fight but according to most on here he’s a bit of a beast and should stop smith mid rounds

Not sure what the original injury was that forced beefy out of the fight with Ali but that could play a factor and then you’ve also got recent poor weight making by anyone out of the Gallagher gym so watch this space

There was no injury. He couldn’t make weight. He’s doing so comfortably this time around.

If Liam had made weight and beat Ali everyone would have been saying he beat a poor Sadam Ali to become world champion, so the same needs to be applied to Munguia. Impressive knock out percentage yes but against who? There’s no stand out opponents on there. I think he’s being vastly overrated and he’s going to have to dig in deep against Beefy.

One thing that astounds me, i actually get the feeling their are many on here who actually want Liam Smith to lose ! Now its fair enough thinking he will lose but their seems to be real dislike on here for him and his brothers, to the degree when they have lost to fighters from abroad their are people on here the British Boxing Forum that are delighted. Its sad.

It's a tough fight to pick for me.

Liam smith is only really proven at European level, and I wouldn't place the Sadam Ali who Munguia beat any higher than that.

I think I would edge towards Munguia based on his physical advantages, but I'm not very confident in my pick, at all.

Should be a fun one though!

Munguia wins, Smith's European level at best.
