I don't know about that. Carl had a warrior's style and mentality. Fans will always gravitate towards that. And Carl took big fights much earlier in his career than Joe did. Add in Carl's mouth for self promotion.

I give Joe Cal credit for adding a fan base to boxing. He was a local hero, although in the States he nothing of note during his WBO reign. Outside of Lacy and Kessler, his opponents weren't up to snuff for air time here.

BTW When Joe had previously beaten Mikkel Kessler in Cardiff ( prior to the super six ) it sold out the Millenium Stadium and smashed then record PPV figures do you think Carl of the polish fireman fight v AA would have been a preferable fight for the super six promoters as opposed to a Calzaghe- Kessler rematch ?.

Ward fights nothing like Hopkins, also Calzaghe was in the highlight of his own career.

Nothing but respect for Carl Froch in what he achieved in his career.

    Proper road warrior.

Calzaghe through was a class act, he beats Carl over the distance, probably 9 rounds to 3.

Really. Joe was facing garbage. Guys with no name appeal combined with guys who would never go on to do anything of note in the sport. And his style was not really TV friendly (networks like real KOs, not the stoppages Joe got).

I realize negotiations between him and BHop fell through at some point, but considering the difference in competition to that point, I doubt Hopkins ducked him. He simply made plenty of money without him.

Hopkins agreed to the fight only to renegade asking for more money.

From what I've seen over the last 10 years post Calzaghes retirement Joe tends to keep his profile low and occasionally pops up on Sky or Boxnation to offer his opinion on the current scenes champions and the up and coming prospects as opposed to every time I see Carl he is self promoting telling everyone how he would have beaten Joe , it seems to me Joe is very content with life training his boy with his dad and Carl is eating himself from the inside out about not getting to fight Joe .

I'm not a huge Hopkins fan (in or out of the ring) although I did win my rent money taking him as an under dog against Trinidad. HBO loved him, though, and he made a bundle.

I was in the crowd when Smith knocked him out of the ring in his final fight. I'll admit I was there more for a couple of the under card fighters, though, which is often the case with me.

I'm not a massive fan of Hopkins post middle weight era either mate and think him one of the biggest con artists in the final years of his career but he definitely ducked Calzaghe who was prepared to fight him in the states just after Calzaghe had beaten Charles Brewer if I'm not mistaken ( a fight i attended and thought Brewer fought better that night than most of boxing gives him credit for ) I know Joe was his own worst enemy at times but all this talk about him ducking Froch is ridiculous , imo the only man who has a genuine claim that Calzaghe ducked him is one of my favourite fighters around at the time and that's Glenn Johnson .
