CompuBox came out with a book with stats on all of Alis fights. It says that Joe Frazier landed 13 jabs in 15 rounds when he beat Muhammad Ali in 1971. I think it's a testament to the versatile nature of the sport. So many arguments are predicated on the quality of ones jab. But here you have the winner of the greatest boxing match ever, landing less than one jab per round.
A testament to how good Fraziers underrated head movement was to get him into position to throw his hook which was also faster than given credit for
I'm not that convinced of punch stats. There's often too much ambiguity, especially watching in real time.
No matte the exact number, it is a fact that he threw few jabs. And perhaps even fewer straight or even overhand rights. He came very far on his left hook. He's an exception to the rule in that way, as there always will be some.
Fraziers underrated defense is never better on show than in this fight when he clowns Ali. Behold the anticipation and ability to "see" punches. Of course when in regular mode he wears much more but his reflexes and anticipation when "going defensive" were simply brilliant.
Wow ... I never thought of it quite like that. Actually, I've never thought of ANYTHING quite like that. Brain is starting to hurt ... getting dizzy ... I'll be in my room with the lights off. Catch you guys later.
Welcome Back. Threads have gone downhill without you, imo… I miss the cool vids and gifs .. you're not allowed to leave that long again!!! haha
Thanks S. Can't promise the same level of content. Will probably be much less of it. We'll take it a day at a time.
He threw 53, landed 13. Ali threw 440, and landed 135. Ali landed 20% of his jabs. Frazier landed 15%.
