I feel the Spinks fight would be like Tyson vs Spinks, Bruno would panic because of Dempsey`s speed and power, McCall was too limited to deal with Dempsey`s roll defense, Morrison was too easy to hit unless he landed his hook first which could of happened because he threw so many punches, Tubbs was small enough to be stopped by Dempsey`s hook, Tubbs would throw away reach advantage by fighting inside like he did vs Tyson, big mistake, if anyone of these fighters fights Dempsey on the inside then they could lose, their best advantage being bigger is being able to exploit Dempsey`s short arms, I could see Fury doing what he did v Wlad, running away and stealing the fight at a safe range, AJ`s powerful constant jab would be a major problem and he could tee off on Dempsey behind the jab at a very safe distance, the Dempsey roll could get him inside though, Lewis would also use his long jab to outpoint Dempsey but he would clinch constantly also like he did vs Tyson, Ali would probably win by clinching a lot also like he did in the second Frazier fight, but Ali was open to hooks in the first Frazier bout until he adjusted and started parrying the hook with his right glove before got tired and sloppy.

Better than a lot of people think

If people like Michael Spinks, Michael Moorer, Chris Byrd, and James Toney can compete, I see no reason Dempsey couldn't. His training and determination would be extremely rare in modern heavyweights. I don't think he could beat say a prime Lennox Lewis, but he could give a lot of them a hell of a fight, and easilly be one of the top contenders even if he never won the title. For example past prime 70's Ali would have to take quite a bit of punishment against Dempsey.

I'm not convinced 20-40Ibs of flab from going to the buffet instead of doing roadwork is some massive advantage. A lot of the second teir heavyweights come in way way heavier than they should.

How about Dempsey Vs Old George Foreman?

True, but Dempsey has overcome similar size differences.

No doubt, but Dempsey was pretty dominant in those fights, I think he could he step it up to someone with the limitations of Old Foreman

I would not rule out Tunney beating Ali or Foreman. Ali had issues with jabbers, and Foreman could gas.
He probably would not beat Frazier in 1971, but would I think to beat Frazier post-1975. I'd pick him over Wilder.
He's too small to have a realistic chance vs Lewis, or Wlad. I could see him giving Holmes a good fight, in a losing effort, and doubt he's last vs Tyson.

I'd pick him over about half of the "Amongst others"

I would give him a good chance against any of them.

He was just that good as a finisher!

Well, it depends if Dempsey is actually gonna be a small 20's heavyweight or a big 70's+ heavyweight. I think that Dempsey was one of the hardest pound for pound punchers ever and he had quite a bit of talent with a lot of ferocity but, at the same time, struggled with more scientific and defensive fighters such as Gene Tunney. Boxing is a lot more scientific than it was it Dempsey's time, so I think Dempsey would definitely struggle with a lot of post 70's fighters even disregarding the weight difference.
