Wait, so you are judging my heritage by my last name? You are aware of the fact, I hope, that an Italian woman (my mom) can get married and take the name of her husband? “Its a simple fact. But so much here seems to escape you that maybe you need a course in that as well.

Wait, so by “us” you mean Italian Americans like myself? And the above statement leads me to believe that Italian Americans arent white. So should I take that to mean that I am a non white racist? I just want to clarify what box you putting me into.

I agree.....I think the issue here is hypersensitivity to a word I heard used officially in North Carolina by blacks there....I was reprimanded for using black by a black friend because he was not black he was brown.....I used the term African American only to be reprimanded by blacks I knew in the military who told me they were not from Africa no more than I was European not to mention I actually have friends from Africa both black and white who get agitated with Americans calling themselves AA when they are born and bred Americans. I give up...lol....this social justice crap came from a divisive administration and the reason so many black friends walked away from the Democratic party....some posters came of age during administration and don't realize the divisive anti unity nature of the administration....I do not know 1 black person who enjoyed the being used politically simply because they were the minority. There is a great video by a young black guy who has educated.himself on the party that brought him so much negative attention simply because he is black by Democrats the video is titled "get off the Democrat plantation". ****, gook, think, slant, wop, peckerwood....whatever

Are you blaming the decades-long opposition to words like "Negro" on Obama...?

Very few black people have left the democratic party, and the current ****-show of a presidential administration is the very definition of "divisive."

Too young and thin skinned for a boxing board but like I said the last 8 yrs wreaked havoc on our education system here every other young person is hypersensitive over issues that sometimes do not exist

When I was growing up during the late 1950s and for much of the 1960s, "Colored" and "Negro" were perfectly acceptable terms to use in regards to black people or African Americans. It was not until the late 1960s that the terms, "Colored" and "Negro," fell out of general usage in favor of the term, "black." Of course, there was rapid change taking place in the United States at the time.

I never heard of the term, "African American," until well after the 1960s. The term, "black," later fell out of usage in favor of the term, "African American."

For a short time during the late 1960s, there were a relatively few black people who were advocating that they be called "Afro Americans."

The so-called "N-word" was considered derogatory during my entire life. But unlike in recent decades, people generally didn't face severe personal repercussions for using the word forty or fifty years ago.

You sound ridiculous. If you think black voters are fleeing the Democratic party (and because of Obama no less!!) you're a misinformed dupe. I don't care what your black best bud told you, or what you saw in a video by some token black right-wing hack. Obama was divisive and Trump isn't? Obama ruined our education system? And now everybody's hypersensitive, and its his administration's fault? You're like a caricature of what liberals imagine Trump voters to be like. Unreal.

I don't understand this criticism of Kev. Are you claiming he's wrong that the current presidential administration is divisive? There is nothing wrong with that labeling, and I'm not sure how you could disagree with it. Also, what exactly is Kev going to find out "when speaking to people from the South"? Have you seen people from the South explain why they voted for Trump? Not exactly thought provoking stuff, well, except for provoking thought of whether they were able to fill out a ballot correctly to begin with.
