You won't get through to him, he has a closed mind and you will only get frustrated trying to educate him .No matter how many here tell him he is a muppet and present him with cold hard facts, he will always think he is right.

That's okay. I won't be commenting any more on the subject of 'Who was better in the 70s - George Foreman or Muhammad Ali?'.

However, I am willing to respond to ''Who was better in the 70s - Farah Fawcett or Bo Derek?'. If anyone has any views on that, I'd love to hear them!

He dominated his division completely, no losses since 1964, and retired at the top...he won all his fights...nuff said.

Well, I'd say Duran is on a par with Monzon in the 70s so he has a case too. Monzon and Duran were certainly the two best of that era, with Ali a little further behind, I'd say.

But we have to say that no of them had a win with the dimension that was george foreman in 1974 and Ali did not it by close decision not... By ko and he was past his prime

But Monzon was never beaten by a rival like Esteban DeJesus. He totally dominated the middleweight division instead.

I think Duran proved in the subsequent fights that he was a vastly superior fighter to DeJesus but yeah, that's one of the arguments in favour of Monzon - that he remained unbeaten throughout the whole decade. He also faced the higher level of opposition (Griffith, Napoles and Valdez).

Duran absolutely crushed his opponents and looked fantastic while doing it - that's a big part of his aura during those years. Monzon's dominance was different but no less impressive in its way.

I think they both stand out as the two most dominant fighters and as long as they are both in the top 2, I really don't mind which order they're in. Ultimately, the gap between those two in the 70s is much smaller than it is between them and the next fighter in the list (Ali).

Seems like a few have Monzon rated above Duran for the 70's... I don't, and not exactly sure why this is the case..
