You posted 'Two of the best Heavyweights going at it' when neither will be anywhere near the top 100 of all time. Now you insert the word current to backtrack. This is simply 2 evenly matched bang average heavyweights fighting in a non title fight - nothing more.
Yeah it is 2 of the best heavyweights going at it. Nobody mentioned Ali or said it was going to be rumble in the jungle. It’s July 2018 and right now at this moment in time these two are two of the best. Both only lost once and to the same man. Intriguing match.
No-one has a problem with the fight, the fact it's a PPV Fight is the problem. Is it reasonable to ask for
It’s worse than all those except Bellew v Cleverly. The Harrison and McCloskey ones were crap one sided farce fights but at least there was an arguement that they were world title fights involving PPV fighters. This doesn’t even have that.
Whyte demanded like a million or something allegedly. Which to me suggests the PPV status is largely to fill his pocket
I watched some of the IFL Whyte interview posted yesterday Why has Whyte got half a ginger goatee? Am I missing something?
100%. PPV is an annoying aspect of course, but anytime two of the current crop of top 10 HW's clash it could be explosive and it could always go either way. We all know that Hearn must (and will) produce X amount of PPV cards each year. It's either pay for it and watch, go out and watch it somewhere or watch the re-run. No point moaning about it.
Boxing fans are being shafted and have every right to moan about being fleeced PPV when they have already subscribed to Sky Sports etc.
Totally agree it's not good to be fleeced as is now the norm! It's the PPV money though that brings the big names in their division, the likes of Parker, GGG, Canelo and Spence Jr to the UK on occasion. Usyk isn't going to come over and fight Bellew and it not be PPV is he if that ever happens. Would you rather watch this weekend's card at 4am for free or £19.95 of a prime time Saturday? Appreciate this card isn't the best example!
I will be watching in a bar anyway but would not care if this was 4am either. It is one of those fights you don't stay up for, one of those non title average fights that gets recorded and watched the next day.
No point in moaning. These two are not clashing if the pay is crap, only ppv can match these fighters. This is the model, I don't like myself but nothing I can do about it. No way I'm paying for it, but will watch it somewhere somehow.
Of course there's a point in moaning about it. The day that people just accept that a match up between 2 top 10 fighters must be PPV otherwise it won't happen the game's ****ed. It's a self fullflling prophecy. Hearn says these fights don't happen without PPV and of course now guys like Whyte expect PPV every time they are in a fight there is a chance they fights against someone at their same level. Let's be honest one of the reasons Whyte expects a PPV purse for this fight is because he was part of a previously ridiculous PPV when fighting for the British title. The idea that all these fights won't happen unless they are PPV is nonsense. They are PPV because they can get away with it and are conditioning boxing fans in to thinking they should be paying for any old shite as long as it costs less than 4 pints down the pub. Joshua v Whyte, a British Title fight won't happen without PPV money = Bollocks. Khan v Prescott, a fighter who hasn't proven himself against the top British domestic level fighters, fighting an unknown Columbian for no title won't happen without PPV money = bollocks Khan v ***an, A fighter who hasn't proven himself against the top British domestic level fighters and was knocked out in 60 seconds against an unknown Columbian, fighting an Irish School teacher won't happen without PPV money = bollocks.
