Of all the prospects the I'm quite high on, sadly the one that gets little to no attention or fanfare on this or any other site is a brilliant Argentine fighter by the name of Brian Carlos Castaño, who in my estimation, is the best Light Middleweight that you've never heard of, and may even be better than the ones who already know. There's no one at Light Middleweight currently that I would put down as an odds on favorite over him. The only guy in the division that may pose some stylistic issues for him is Jermell Charlo, but I'd even favor him over the crappy twin if he takes the Vanes approach, which he can. He currently holds 3 wins over 2 of the best LMW's in the division and over one of the best Middleweights in the world.

He beat the living crap out of Michel Soro, the brilliant Marquez like counter puncher from the Ivory Coast that fights out of France, who was coming off of a string of stoppage wins over Blandamura, Tapia, Lawal, Saldivia, Maciel and since his loss to Brian, he's went on to dominate and take the 0 of John Vera. Soro's only two stumbles are controversial, his draw against Antoine Douglass was debatable, I had Soro winning 6-4, and his other loss was against Russian fighter Zaurbek Baysangurov when he was but a mere 22 year old, Soro manage to drop Zaurbek in the 2nd round, and won 4 or 5 rounds, until tiring and giving away much of the second half of the fight. Basically aside from the too much too soon fight against Zaurbek, Soro was on a rampage dominating everyone he set foot in the ring with. The fight was in France, which is notorious for their robberies, well Brian still managed to pick up the win, and it was fair and square, he forced Soro into a fight he didn't want to fight, and forced the pace from the 1st to the 12th almost non stop, it was a masterful performance.

He followed that up with his first defense of the WBA strap he picked up, against French nightmare Cedric Vitu, who had also been on a streak, picking up wins over talented undefeated Italian Orlando Fiordigiglio, Spanish grinder Isaac Real, talented tough as nails Spanish journeyman Roberto Santos and Marcello Matano. Vitu's sole loss was also a controversial one, he lost via SD to Rabchenko in the UK, he was basically in the Ricky Hatton trained fighter's adopted backyard, even one of the Brit judges gave it to him. Vitu is a volume punching counter puncher, who's a nightmarish opponent for most. Well... Castaño just like he did with Soro, he jumped on his ass in the first, and never let up until he dropped Vitu viciously in the 12th and stopped the iron chinned Frenchman for the first time in his career. Neither Vitu or Soro are Euro level fighters, both could hang with and beat the big boys of the division, and Brian made easy work of them.

The win he picked up against a Middleweight, was over the brilliant Ukrainian Sergey The Technician Derevyanchenko, who he took on in the semi-pro World Series Of Boxing, sans headgear in a 5 rounder, it was a close fight, but I being a huge fan of Sergey's, scored it for Brian 3-2, both men set a relentless pace and threw from bell to bell non stop. Its a tremendously entertaining fight where the Argentine displayed his more crafty side, switching with ease between backfoot counter puncher and swarming aggressor, setting an awkward hard to time rhythm throughout, its Sergey's one and only loss in the WSB and comparable to USyk's wins over Joyce and Medzhidov.

Oh, and by the way, he also has a win in the amateurs over the one and only Errol Spence Jr. hopefully when and if Errol makes the move North, and they can rematch, will it be repeat or revenge?

Brian's a very versatile fighter, that adjust according to each opponent and quickly becomes an issue for them stylistically, his footwork is magnificent, he cuts the ring off exceptionally well, he's evasive and hard to hit off the backfoot, his offense is his defense, when he let's his hands go, its a marvel to behold, he unleashes an almost non stop flurry, some of them lasting for 30 seconds, with near undivided focus, always cognizant of incoming counters, that he usually parries excellently and keeps punching without missing a beat. When playing the role of the pressure fighting swarmer, he rarely sets down on his shots, he hits just hard enough to keep his opponents cautious, and eventually he starts varying up the speed of his shots and setting down on them when his opponent least expects it. While he tends to prefer the volume approach, that's not to say he doesn't have power, that usually comes in the form of his counter shots or when he slowly walks down his opponents behind his jab, that's when he loads up on the them. He's fast as hell, accurate as hell, a blistering combination puncher,, with an absolutely amazing gas tank. Personally I said he'd do the same thing to Lara that Hurd did, sadly Hurd beat him to it, and I think he'd beat Hurd at his own game, he can play the role of elusive counter puncher early and flip the script on Hurd by beating him to the punch and outworking him on the inside, late, he's faster and sharper than Swift, and probably just as heavy handed.

Could he falter? Possibly. But I doubt it highly.

Bring on Munguia, bring on Brook, bring on Charlo, bring on Hurd.

    The Argentine Juggernaut is waiting.:ggg:ggg:ggg:ggg:ggg

I want you to be right, because I really do like him, but I worry how he’d handle any of the people you’ve mentioned outside Kell and maybe Charlo, who like you mentioned does present stylistic problems for Castaño. I really don’t know how he’d handle the power of Munguia or the size of Hurd.

I ironically was thinking about him vs. Hurd last night and trying to convince myself that he’d be able to take Hurd, but couldn’t because of how physically imposing Hurd is. But like I said, I hope you’re right because I really do not like Hurd and like Castaño quite a bit lol

Castano has a good chin, pretty sure he can take Munguia's power and outbox him at this point.

Charlo and Hurd are the toughest fights IMHO, Castano is more skilled than both, but that size difference is a problem ....

Anyway, nice thread CST, Castano definitely deserves more of a following.

Yeah looks good..Soro looks good too tbh, I didn't watch all of the fight but watched the 12th and he gave a good finish against a kid that just kept coming and mixing it up..Can he(Castano) overwhelm the top names at 154 or outbox them, we will have to wait and see..Looks very likely though..He has a big pair of Bollox

Castano is the only man to defeat Devrenyanchenko in at least 8 years and GGG ducked Devrenyanchenko, therefore Castano>>>GGG

Castano also beat the excellent Michel Soro who would whoop everyone else other than Castano at LMW, IMO, therefore Castano #1 at LMW

He whooped Spence as well, therefore Castano>>>Spence
