He was a gold medalist who beat Lennox Lewis in the Olympics and I believe he defeated Tyson for the spot on the super heavy team for the USA. He was hyped to be one of the next big names in pro boxing and seemed to have the tools.

But did he reach his natural ceiling or could he have done much better but was held back maybe by things that were his fault or by things that weren't his fault?

His cocaine addiction did him in, unfortunately.

I thought Tyson was a heavyweight, not super heavyweight, and lost to Henry Tillman to miss out on the Olympics.

Biggs was not great. Sort of like Andrew Maynard. Solid enough as a contender but not as a champ.

Being a decent amateur over three rounds before fighters are seasoned pro`s doesn`t mean much, look at Audley Harrison he won a gold at super heavyweight and was dire as a pro, there have been a lot of amateurs who couldn`t adapt to the pros after doing well at the olympics, power doesn`t mean as much in the amateurs and the first three rounds against Tyson didn`t go that bad, that would have been the end of the fight in the Olympics after three rounds, they have started up a world boxing series tournament in the amateurs with pro boxing rules in terms of scoring as a stepping stone from the olympics to the pro`s and cruiser champ Usyk beat Joe Joyce in that match, had they been the same wight at the olympics Joyce might have won because of the amateur point scoring system and Joyce is nowhere near the level of Usyk in the pros. Can't see Biggs ever being a champ he was clearly better suited to the 3 round amateur competition.

Biggs actually looked pretty good to me. He was physically imposing, quick, skilled. I think his problems were those of mental fortitude and of physically being unable to endure punishment. Damiani broke him down and Tyson after an iffy start, demolished him. I think he could have done much better than he did.

I see Biggs as having a similar feature/fate as Breland and Nunn, 3 guys who were tall with long necks, if U can't tuck that chin, that chin will get checked.

I dont think he would have gone much further,he lacked power and a variety of punches.

He wasn't gonna beat Tyson, Holyfield, or Bowe.

He had a chance at a Damiani for the WBO belt but lost.

If he stayed really focused, maybe he could've picked up a belt from Seldon, McCall, Morrison, or Bruno.

He could've had better success if he came around five years earlier, but I mean win a few and lose a few.

Way, way too much heavyweight **** on the front page right now. Biggs gets talked about every other week as well, at length. Next.

Nunn was far better than Biggs.

He did pretty good vs Bowe considering he was already damaged and declined. Prime for prime I think stylistically he gives Bowe problems because of his speed and Bowes lack of footspeed. He's not particularly fast on his feet or good at cutting off the ring either. Holyfield came to Bowe he didn't have to chase him down. He would have to chase prime Biggs down while being beaten to the punch.bad style match up and it wasn't easy in reality either.

And as stacked as Holyfields Resumee is in Punchers...he didn't fight many tall, movers in his prime like tucker, Biggs, tubbs.
He fought Douglas but Douglas was fat and didn't really move on Holyfield. Biggs would almost certainly make Holyfield Chase and attack him which holyfield wasn't that comfortable with(see the Holmes fight).

Holyfield doesn't move his head on the way in like the great pressure fighters that cut down movers and he was usually only agressive when someone came after him.

Another tough style matchup although I definitely think prime Vander makes it happen.

Biggs was by no means great as a pro
But Mike was really much more suited to beating him than the other greats of that period were

    He was a drug addict.
He was never going to be great despite his talent, balancing a drug addict ion and being a pro athlete at the top of your game is impossible.
