Is seems generally considered a reasonable position. I'd consider reasonable. But I hardly ever see people argue for it.

I do rate Joe over Ali and I think he may have beat him also, something it took years to change in me from my big Ali following in my GG days. Joe in the Primo, Baer and Max S. bouts had a bounce in his legs that belies the shuffling movement we usually associate with Joe and his hand speed and accuracy were amazing. When I go back over Ali's 60's bouts before the William's go I'm not now terribly impressed, not against Terrell, the injured Patterson or Chuvalo who despite a very slow moving forward was able to catch and pound Ali hard to the body numerous times. Now against William's and Folley it was a different Ali but if I'm taking his while body of work I would rate Joe ahead of him.

    Yeah.

I reckon at the end of the day where you rank who depends mostly on what is most impressive to you and who represents those things the most. For me Joe Louis's efficiency was more impressive than Ali's ability to combine so many techniques.

Ali’s my hero and number 1 but I’ve no issue with anyone having Joe Louis over him at all.

I think Wladimir Klitschko came close to matching Ali and Louis

Had he got in a few more title defenses and retired he could have rated above them.

Well, in my opinion, Joe Louis had the greatest reign in heavyweight history. In a mythical matchup , Joe probably can't corner Ali but I wouldn't bet a lot on it.
