Anyway I agree Liston is overrated by some at least people who think he would beat Wladimir Klitschko or Anthony Joshua or do well today. But with Frazier he is fighting a smaller physically weaker man with a so-so chin who was easy to hit and obliterated by the only big hitter he faced and hurt in other fights by guys like Bugner and Bonavena who were not big hitters. You can think he is badly overrated by some people and still favor him in this matchup.

Marciano fans use this same argument. It’s illogical. Liston will never have to reach deep for his heart in this one. Frazier will walk right into listons artillery and get bombed out early

As for his “questionable” heart, does fighting 4 rounds with a broken jaw classify a sign of toughness?

Everything based on your opinion and imagination. You have absolutely no way to prove what you are saying ...everything smoke... "He was he would " "he was a beast a monster" blahblah patterson and williams, period. Btw the jab was not even relevant to beat joe frazier.

Punchers of Liston’s Caliber don’t come along very often. One thing he did well was set up his power. He was a good technical boxer and he could be patient. That’s what made him better than Foreman. Liston worked behind the jab and let the fight come to him. Sonny didn’t seem to get tired like Foreman did and part of that is he didn’t waste punches. He was well school.

Wlad could outbox him but that isn’t the most likely result. He would need to fight the perfect fight or excuse me the perfect non fight. Throw a couple of punches and grab Liston before any return fire. Wlad never saw a jab that long and accurate from a shorter man. Liston won’t have a problem reaching him.

Saying Liston can’t beat Wlad isn’t realistic. When Sonny lands square with either hand he was a knockout threat. Wlads chin isn’t going to take much at all. He would need to hold as often as possible. Unless you’ve convinced yourself that a lefthook from 215lb Sonny Liston can’t shatter that fine China chin.

In my opinion Joe cannot possibly come straight at Sonny Liston for very long. I love smokin Joe but this style matchup is a nightmare. Sonny by TKO inside 5 after dropping Joe several times

Liston quit in '59 '60?? He didn't lose in 10 years ..He quit when he was 35 yrs old.. Frazier quit at 31, Pep quit, Duran, and so many more .. The Liston being a quitter with no heart theme.. getting a little old .. Liston KO imo

In Wladimir Liston is facing something he never encountered in his actual career a much bigger man with skills and athleticism. I'm skeptical Liston's power will have the same effect against Wladimir that it had against smaller men. Like Foreman Liston in his prime was used to being the bigger stronger man. Wladimir never lost to someone as small as Liston. Also Wladimir is capable of keeping the fight at long range and seems to have a better shot at avoiding retaliatory shots.

    LOl@ you...

So WK was pulverized by a pro trial horse because he could not continue aka he packed it in.....folded like a cheap tent against a no hoper Golfer who never ever beat ANYBODY of note besides WK.....was walked down by human Heavy Bag with zero defense except his chin Lamon Brewster.......and went life and death with a fat , no skill "Who nex"......

None of them put out a masterclass, they simple walked him down except Sanders who just blitz krieged him and Wk did not have the Ring IQ to adjust and Sanders kept hitting him with the same shots all over until the Ref said no mas.

I am one of the biggest Liston critics on this forum but he is all wrong for WK......WK CANNOt take ANY educated pressure and once his jab and grab dont work he is completely out of his element and folds.......Liston's jab alone will be a major problem plus what is coming behind.

WK is , was and always will be falling apart when the going gets tough.

VK on the other hand has more balls but way less skills.

Wlad is the better boxer, the bigger man, the bigger puncher, stronger, and more athletic. Wlad also never lost to anyone lighter than 225. All of Sonny's losses came to guys 210 or lighter. He's the same height and weight as Chris Byrd and was talked about as some sort of giant. Because, compared to 5'11, 195 pound guys, he was.

It's not Sonny's fault the division outgrew him, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend it didn't. A bullying fighter reliant on a size advantage he wouldn't have doesn't exactly project the best.

Good points. When Foreman's wilting Liston would still be strong. Liston ko around 6 or 7.

Prime Frazier wins in about 9 rounds. He hits too hard, too accurately and too often for Sonny.

However, Frazier as The guy Foreman beat won’t last 4 rounds with Sonny.

If you don't think the jab was relevant take a look at Frazier's face after the Ali fights.

So you're taking the guy Bonavena sat on his arse twice instead? Who says Frazier hits harder than Williams or DeJohn? He walked throught their shots

He's trying to kill two birds with one stone and who else would it be but Liston and Foreman.
