That’s good to hear. It’s a shame it’s not at the O2 or the MEN and it really should be but the WSSB has been such a breath of fresh air that I am willing to give the benefit of doubt to such decisions.Sad we could have had another classic all British super middleweight encounter to add to the legions we have from down the years.Eubank,Benn,Watson,Calzaghe,Collins,Reid,Woodhall,Froch,Groves,Degale etc all had one thing in common and that’s a noisy partisan crowd be it White Hart Lane,Wembley,Dublin or wherever. That matters in a big domestic showdown such as this.
Very disappointed to see this fight land in Saudi -- obv comes down to money but you would think it could work in the UK and stack up because it would sell out an arena plus good ppv numbers etc But for a big uk fight they didnt leave themselves much time to sell it so prob didnt ever plan to bring it here
Ok boss. Khan-Pacquaio Fury-Wlad 2 Floyd,Pacquaio,Khan,Klitschko and any number of other major events that were promised huge funding to relocate from Vegas. Do you question my integrity here or something? Do you think im making this stuff up to make myself feel important?
Your average Saudi doesn’t earn $10k more than your average US citizen though so that’s a misleading stat, it’ll be heavily skewed by those raking it in at the top (sorry the economist and pedant in me felt the need to raise that). Of course they’ve put up a huge amount of money, a worthwhile move to bring us this tournament as otherwise I’m sure it would have made a loss...
Yep my memory banks are letting me down on the specifics but more frustrating and bewildering is boxing fans are questioning me on this subject like it’s news to them. The Middle East has been touted to hold dozens of super fights and hundreds of lesser ones over the years and it’s generally regarded that anytime one is rumoured to be in that location that it’s either pie in the sky or a promoter using them as a negotiating tool to force a traditional venue to up their bid. This is the first off the top of my head that has ever actually got to the announcement stage, certainly in the last decade anyway. The Middle East becoming a big player at staging major fights has been speculated about for the same amount of time.
no you're saying this fight wont go ahead due to HUNDREDS of previous times fights have been booked in the middle east but havent happened then came up with 2 examples which i'm pretty certain were never booked.
Obviously they weren’t booked and neither were the other ones. I made that clear that this has gone further as it’s been announced.Just mentioning my concerns and they are legitimate. Are you being argumentative for a reason?
I thought the same but then if you average ticket prices to £150 (some will be a lot less some will be 500+) in an 18k arena that’s 2.7 million. Even if the average was £300 it’s 5.4million. Then costs etc. The PPV doesn’t really come in to it because it will still be PPV. All fights are meant to be 10pm British time which I think is 1am Saudi time? So that will be a bit mad.
I think its more that the Saudis have invested and want something in return. I mean how the hell have they funded all this?
