The extra weight didn't help that's for sure, he gassed surprisingly early, he looked in far better shape vs Joshua.
This. 240+ is way too heavy for Parker. Parker should be between 225-230 and he could be more effective. But, that aside I think he needs to look at getter a better trainer, since he's been consistently making the same mistakes fight after fight. He's still young enough to improve on his skill if he's willing to put the work in. Also, Whyte also needs to get his weight under control as well, since despite beating Parker he would get easily crushed again by Joshua if he shows up at 240+.
I think it's all fair at the end of the day, since Parker has also been on the receiving end of favorable decisions.
We've been calling for a new trainer for literally years. You're spot on, any reasonable boxing fan can see it. It happens that Whyte is not particularly good, which is why despite Parker's many flaws it was a very close fight. In NZ that probably goes to Parker.
Do you think Parker would be open to relocating to the UK? Hearn loves a heavyweight and Parker could do well based over here. I give Hearn as much stick as anyone, but he needs to be given some credit for how Whyte's career as gone. He easily could have slipped into obscurity after the Joshua defeat.
To be fair, both guys only had about 6 weeks to train, if you can go from fat to chiseled in 6 weeks, become a strength and conditioning trainer and let everyone else know. Besides, Parker won that fight on an even playing surface, a draw at the very least.
In all fairness neither guy should be so out of shape that they can't be ready in 6 weeks. Both guys are paid very nicely at this point in their career. Is it so hard to keep in shape between fights? I know they are not alone. Many fighters let themselves go but to use it as an excuse is a sorry excuse when that's your only job.
As my old buddy Randall Tex Cobb so eloquently put it " When the bell rings the trainer goes down the steps its YOUR ass in the ring alone to fight" I did think both guys looked soft at the weigh in as if neither had been training hard. I'll watch the fight later
