What baffles me is why Cormier is talking about it so much. If he had just ignored Gus and decided to fight Brock and retire no one would have blamed him. He's had the retirement timeline for ages, and its totally rational that he would only have 1 fight (vs. Brock) between now and then. Instead he immediately started talking about how he wanted a fight with Shogun at 205. This made no sense because his cut to 205 is so strenuous, while a victory over Shogun (who didn't deserve a title shot) adds nothing and no one would want to see that fight. Meanwhile, he also says he WON'T fight Gus because Gus is 'delusional' which is a stupid reason to not fight someone. I'm not silly enough to think DC is afraid of Gus. I doubt DC is afraid of anyone. But by calling out Shogun and then refusing to entertain a fight with the most deserving contender he has created the perception that he is cherry picking. I actually like DC, but its kind of amazing that he's already spoiling the outpouring of good will he got from beating Stipe.
Old fighters cherry picking is an accepted excuse in the boxing forum. Seems some people pick and choose when it is a valid excuse. I've even heard the excuse used for GSP in this forum at that.
Who did GSP ever cherry pick? He at least had the honour to quickly abdicate a title in a division he knew he wasn't fit to fight the best in.
It is a duck, seemingly. Although ducks don't really work in UFC the way they do in boxing so I'm not keen on the terminology. If Dana makes the fight I doubt DC takes it, but that just mean Gus fights Smith for the vacant LHW title anyways. Most likely scenario is DC cashes out Vs Lesnar, loses, retires and then we see Lesnar in a big money defence against Jones. The only reason I'm ok with the Lesnar fight is I think it will be a good competitive fight. I hated the GSP and Hendo defence for Bisping but one dropped him twice and one finished him. Yeah it sucks that more deserving men didn't get the shots but as actual fights they are good competitive matchups
Are you suggesting that DC takes a dive? Because that's the only way Lesnar beats him. I wouldn't rule it out tbh. The UFC are that desperate.
At this stage in his career, DC is free to fight anyone he wants. During his career he fought absolutely everyone. In the UFC alone that includes a roided monster twice, a natural monster twice, and Gus himself in an absolute war. He then stepped up and knocked out a dominant Champion Gus deserves to be next in line for LHW title shot, and really Jones and the UFC were the ones that denied him that years ago Cormier? He's more than earned that huge money fight. Fight Brock, hang em up, and go down as one of the Greatest of All Times
If he's to fight at HW that's fine but he should vacate the LHW belt then. But I can't as a true fan condone the Lesnar fight.... The latter hasn't fought in 2 years, failed a drug test in his last fight and hasn't won legitimately since 2010. It will end up happening because money talks and all rules, standards and principle take a backseat for situations like this.
Nah I can't imagine him taking a dive for any amount of money tbh. I just reckon Lesnar has a decent shot at steamrolling him.
For sure. Cant' see DC pulling a Bisping/McGregor anyway As for the Brock fight, i'm pretty intrigued by it!
