He lacks the tools to properly defend himself when the other fighter applies pressure. His guard is low and he doesn't counterpunch, he just winds up retreating in a straight line more often than not. He needs a new coach to give him those defensive tools to take punches while minimising their impact. He has literally added nothing to his game in the past 3 years.
Remember that Parker rushed into this fight without taking a long enough rest after the Joshua fight. Joshua still has 5 weeks left before his fight against Povetkin. Team Parker were offered a headliner on Sky Box Office and they grabbed it even knowing they wouldn't be 100% for the fight. And there's nothing wrong with that since being in boxing is about making money and im sure he's happy he made plenty for himself and his team. He has ample time ahead of him to come back more prepared and with more desire to win. He's still young for a HW.
From the point of view of maximising Parker's achievements in boxing, you are right. As fans that's what we all want. However I get the sense that Parker's team have instead taken a fast-track to maximise his earnings rather than his boxing ability. They have succeeded in this approach and possibly made more money than JP was ever really worth on pure boxing ability alone. In that sense they may already have succeeded. JP is on record saying his focus is on retiring young and making sure he has made enough money to provide for his family.
I'm not overly critical of them rolling the dice. I mean, he came within 20 seconds of winning the fight & had some bad luck with the headbutt along the way so he nearly got there. And had he got over the line, the decision to take the fight would have been a masterstroke. But I think now they need to go back to basics and get him some low risk wins (and I mean wins plural). Not throw him straight back in with another live opponent b/c the money is better. He would have beaten Whyte coming in off two or three wins instead of a loss.
Anything over 25% is out of the ordinary At 35%, Parker cant be taking away more than 35% himself. As you add the trainer, cutman, chef in there. Plus all the expenses...!
I'm starting to think Parkers a little more than just a nice guy, perhaps he's not the sharpest. He don't look like he should be getting 35% Higgins, like a fish out of water or his first day on the job kinda fella. I agree, maybe 40%...It should imo be around 60% minimum. I may have it wrong, but i'm sure in general Hearn takes 20%, i'm sure it was Chisora a while back that said it or he said it to Chisora
