Enjoyed the fight. Both men gave as much as they could in the end. I've said before, big respect to Whyte. He isn't the most naturally talented boxer but what he lacks in skill he makes up for in grit, determination and a massive set of balls. I also think he really puts the work in the gym in between fights trying to improve and be the best he can be so you have to respect that.

As for the fight itself, I personally thought Parker was looking pretty comfortable up until the knock down in round 2, clearly the better boxer of the two. Not sure how anybody thinks it was legit? Absolutely no way that was due to a punch, I saw no flush punch land in real time and the replay clearly showed the heads bang and Parker go down as a result. What I saw in the rounds after was Parker looking vacant for about 6 rounds, I think he was concussed and a bit confused.

We know Parker goes 12 easily enough and we know Dillian blows after the mid rounds which he was doing again on Saturday so I'm not sure the result would have been the same without the clash of heads but obviously will never know. Strange as it may be the second KD from Whytes peachy left hook almost looked as if it knocked Parker back into his senses and he came on stronger in the last few rounds.
Not trying to discredit Whyte, I'm a fan. That's just my analysis of the fight. Thoroughly enjoyed it, if that's me being a PPV mug then so be it

 

Well done, mate. That’s fantastic. He’s domestic level in skill but I think both Whyte and Ortiz both opted to box sensible, keep him at range and jab his head off for a reason...he might be this big joke (and that’s self inflicted), have a total lack of self belief, poor attitude & a resulting poor conditioning because of that...but he has a big overhand right. I’m not saying it’s a deceptive shot but if an opponent got complacent, switched off for a moment in the pocket, they could end up getting embarrassed by that shot.

 

I was pretty hammered which may have impaired it, but I scored it for Parker (I flat out refused to count the first KD). Going to try watching it again sober but I knew it was close enough and I had drank enough that it wouldn't be controversial in any way for Whyte to win, so it is what it is.

 

Parker started well, but I just felt that he didn’t move on from that, mate. Imo he lacked ideas (or how to implement them) on how to stop Whyte marching forwards. Whyte was catching the straight and looping rights hands comfortably on his gloves and the body shots although scoring didn’t seem to slow Whyte down either. Whyte was quite happy to throw with Parker and having felt his power, Parker didn’t fancy trading much on the inside either. So what we had was Parker doing exactly what he did with AJ which was to let his hands hang by his sides, eat jabs and hope his opponent would leave himself wide open for a counter. Meanwhile, the rounds just slipped away. The only reason he finished strongly was because Whyte completely gassed.

 

I've seen it givens as a criticism that Whyte was basically out on his feet at the end but I see it as an indicator that he actually went all in. If you're going to gas, do it in the last 30 seconds of the fight...

 

Very true. Whyte left absolutely nothing in the ring whereas Parker was probably left with ‘could I have done more’.

 

I think the weight difference played a big part in whyte getting the win. We always criticize heavys for coming in heavier than they should be. Pretty sure its a tactic that most people don't realize...hence the criticism. The way their fighting nowadays that extra weights becoming an advantage. Although whyte gassed completely at the end. Parker gassed from quite early. That extra stone difference between them or whatever it was does take it out of you in a dog fight. Even guys with good stamina gas more when they start taking heavy shots. Even shots that look quite slow...there's still 18 stone behind them. Or a stone more than your punches behind them.

Parker tired quite quickly with it...knew he couldn't keep going like that cause it was taking it out of him. His next problem was the outboxing whyte was never gonna work with whytes length advantage. Going in i thought maybe he could i think parkers team thought the same. But it became apparent quite quickly it wasn,t happening. Parker could have won it with the straight right imo. He made the mistake of throwing combinations trying to bang it out but just ended up wasting energy. Needs to go away and bulk up change the way he fights. The outboxing on the backfoot shouldn't really be an option with his short reach. Anyone good will counter him. He,d have won that if he concentrated his power into the single straight right hand tho instead of wasting energy with the conbinations imo anyway.

Parker takes his nice man personality into tbe ring unless he changes that he will keep coming up short against the top guys, as he needs devilment in their. The way he was bullied was embarrassing, he surely couldnt have been surprised to see Whyte being dirty and making it a bit of a street fight (problem was he wouldn't do it back). Not having pop at Whyte he done what he needed to do to win and i dont blame him.

 

I agree with that, Moog. You’ve got to be prepared to go to the trenches if you have to. Different division but the very best at it for me was André Ward. He would do what was absolutely necessary to win, employing the dark arts with his inside work. Parker is clearly a gentleman but sometimes you have to cross the line.

I have felt this about Parker since the first time I watched him live which was his fight before Takam.

Very hard to dislike the man but my gut feeling was a man that would never empty the tank or take any risks. Until the final 30 secs in the Whyte fight, I had him down as the 'White Toe' v Klitschko and Skippy Burns v Indongo - happy to accept tame points defeats and only in it for the money.

He must look back on his 2 defeats and regret being far too passive in both fights.

Not a man deserving of another PPV Pie but he will get another one against Chisora, Bellew or PED Fury.

I watched it stone cold sober and had Parker nicking it with the last round, having scored the knockdown round as a 10-10, as I felt Parker won the round aside from the knockdown.
