The same Gassiev that only had 25 amateur fights and became a world champ. The same Gassiev that’s EASILY a top 5 puncher in the sport. The same Gassiev that was undefeated until he recently lost to the #2 PFP fighter in the sport. Yes dildo that Gassiev. He would hit Ward twice as hard as Sergey did and he wouldn’t tire either.
Excellent post and while I respect a finite amount of folks posting in this thread unfortunately a good majority of them are driven by disdain, unawareness and unadulterated cultural appropriation. Their logic is clouded thus the reason why you can feel the irrational disgust in their words. The reality is while I would give Usyk the clear advantage in this mythical matchup Ward is as live a dog as any in boxing. Wards ability to adapt, adjust and manipulate a fight based solely on your assessed weaknesses is phenomenal. The challenge here is to separate yourself from those who practice the boxing version of pseudo certainty based on hate and intolerance versus true evidence based analysis.
Every fight is an individual respresention of the of two fighters colliding in a closed space. The dynamic that’s created is relative to that specific event, why did Floyd struggle with a light plodding Castillo and manhandle a more explosive puncher in Corrales? Why did Loma struggle with Salido and subsequently capture Linares belt. It’s really not an outlandish thought envisioning a Ward victory here, If I we’re a betting man my safe money would stay with Usyk but not without Ward worries, he’s a natural spoiler with grit that goes beyond any fighter active today.
What has Dorticos Ud'ing Miranda got to do with Gassievs power though? We can all be selective picking certain parts of a fighters resume to push a narrative.. It is perfectly reasonable to suggest Gassiev would clock the much smaller Ward considering SMWs & LHWs like Boone, Kovalev dropped him & even flat footed, move in straight lines Barrera mashed his face up! 100% KO ratio he may not have but when you stop CW mainstay Wlodarczyk who's never been stopped in 60 fights or belt Dorticos around the ring you know you've got power! Kudryashov, Drozd, Cunningham (who dropped Fury BTW) Durodola, Chakhkiev, Fragomenni, Green etc couldn't stop em... Lebedevs got an iron chin. His opponent GJ was juiced to the gills.. Ben Johnson would be proud! Disgusting that you don't even factor that in..
Allowing Usyk to force the action and initiate the exchanges. Usyk is a boxer first counter puncher second and Ward at this stage is a counter puncher first stalker second when he’s realized his advantages. Visually the size difference would have viewers wondering why Usyk is taking on such a cautious approach. Wards reputation will play a big role in his ability to gain some respect from Usyk even if there is a distinct power and strength difference. Kovalev is a boxer/puncher who’s sole intent is to debilitate you while Usyk is more focused on landing, scoring points and repositioning himself in a place that disallows effective countering. Wards struggle with Kovalev had plenty to do with Kovalevs aggressive nature on the front foot which naturally provides a fighter with balance and extensive room for error. Usyk can do the same except he’ll be compelled to add more volume versus Kovalevs less volume more accuracy approach. More volume means more opportunity for Ward and if Ward decides Usyk can’t hurt him as previously advertised it will end up being a long gritty night of counter punching.
Usyk however he wants it to be and how long he wants the fight to last. Usyk gets compared to the best heavyweight fighters in the world because he has no competition in the cruiserweight division, Ward was a rather small light heavyweight and a former super middleweight without punching power, Usyk would simply be too big, we don't even need to talk about his skills.
He became a champion in a mediocre division. Bellew also became a champion at cruiserweight. In a competitive division like light heavyweight Bellew wasn't championship material just like Gassiev wouldn't be at heavyweight. Also, who has Gassiev knocked out to prove he's easily one of the top 5 puncher in the sport? Lebdev was 37 years old and way past prime, but once he realized Gassiev was one dimensional started dominating all the round with mobility and using angles when he was punching Gassiev. If Gassiev was half the puncher you say he is he would've knocked out both Lebdev and Ismail Adboul, who was also almost 40. Neither Lebdev or Abdoul on their best day are as skilled as Ward. Knocking out Dorticos, who can't punch and isn't very durable doesn't prove much. Kovalev is much quicker than Gassiev, has better timing, and is twice as skilled. Sullivan Barrera could've easily picked up a title at cruiserweight if he stayed in the division, but knew there was no money in the division and moved down.
Gene doping? Okay buddy that does it, lets meet up somewhere so I can hammer you with a tetanus infected nail.
