With the new increase of Eastern European fighters I think it's necessary. In some of those countries the average male is over 6 feet tall. I'm usually against the idea of more weight classes. There is no need for most of the super and junior divisions. But the jump from 175 to 200 is too much. That's 25 pounds and I think if we had a 187 pound division you would see less guys trying to bulk to 200 or cut to 175 and fight in an unnatural weight class.
Nope. Only if it's for light heavy and we move everything up. Lose a lot of the lower weights as they are hardly any weight apart anyway.
Maybe, but I think anybody who can't make 200 is walking around 225 plus. If you're rehydrating to 220 you're big enough.
I agree that a lot of the lower weights are unnecessary, but 175 to 200 is too much of a leap. A guy like Kovalev could realistically carry some of his power to 187, but at 200 he'd just be too damn small.
Yea I’ve never understood why there wasn’t a division between cruiserweight and heavyweight? I’d put one in there and remove a couple others.
This. Light heavyweights with any kind of talent can easily compete at cruiserweight. Cruiserweight is a mediocre division as it is, so making another division in between would make the division even weaker. Guys that feel cruiserweight is too big can fight at light heavyweight. Guys that think fighting under 200 is too low have the heavyweight division.
