I'm sure there has to be quite a few here who've met some Pros. One of my best memories is with Micky Ward. At Graziano's Bar in Canastota. What I thought would be just a picture and a hey champ, turned into a fifteen minute conversation. I stirred something in him when I said I was happy to see a movie on him- so don't go back to boxing, I like hearing you speak well and appearing in good health. He told me about how he had bad headaches after the Gatti series. For months his vision was blurred, started to get nervous, thinking he would lose his eye sight. Joked about how much cussin' was in the movie, he said, man, that was tame, we cuss more. His brother is really a serious kinda of a guy, but Mickey was laid back. He said he trained Walhburg for the movie, and he got pretty good. probably couldn't beat him without training. But if he did train, LOL, I'd edge him...that was pretty honest!! He told me another story about the cops coming for his brother Ecklund one night and his mother pretended he wasn't there...but that's another story!!! gotta remember it.... Last day, I saw him driving by in one of those golf cart vehicles, he remembered and waived at me, first. Cool dude.
Has always came across as what you say he's like, a real down-to-earth, honest and likeable guy. Glad to hear the reality matches the persona.
2009 or 2010... IBHOF, I was at the Golf-BBQ outing, two lines. As I got to the front they had to refill, there was like three huge bowls and only one breast left in one. As I was about to reach for it, I looked over and saw the other guy. No ****, it was Buster Douglass, I looked at him and said, "well damn, I guess we know who gets this last piece." He laughed pretty good and we talked while they brought some fresh BBQ out. OK, silly story, but small things like that makes ya feel pretty good. James was a cool dude too. And actually that was when a friend of mines pointed out Bramble, so while we we're waiting I got a picture with him. James was chowing on that last piece when i asked Livingston who was maybe 2 or so behind me in line.. so I didnt ask for a pic of Buster while standing and getting his grub-on! When the cooks brought out some fresh BBQ..As Buster reached down he said, "you can get the first piece."
Rocky Marciano at the Brockton Fair when I was a kid... Jack Dempsey in NYC...just before his restaurant closed in 1974... Marvin Hagler...(several times) Tony DeMarco... Jack Sharkey... Willie Pep... Bob Foster... Carmen Basilio... Jake LaMotta...
Holmes Cooney Cobb Williams Snipes Shavers Ali Frazier Leonard Rosario Camacho McCallum Pazienza Mancini Barkley Moore Mercer Pryor Foster Cobb, Rosario, Mercer and Foster were all scary as hell in their own ways. Camacho was bat**** nuts. Moore was so humble. Ali was magic. Holmes is an amazing guy.
Holmes is a great guy. He gets a bum wrap here alot. I'm curious about Cobb Rosario Mercer and Foster. What was it as bout each that gave you that feeling?

OK, not as good as ur guys story, but its all I have. I don't even know who he is, but we were watching the Foreman/Cooney fight at my neighbors house. My neighbors friend from work, I believe he was a school janitor, name of John I believe was there. He fought Toney Danza. Of course he fought other guys as well. Funny thing, another guy from his work, another janitor, was Dennis Yost, singer from classics four who did traces.
