As a big Diaz brothers fan I'm pumped for Nates return in what should be an awesome fight against Poirier for I assume the right to challenge Conor vs Khabib winner.
Maybe but more likely the UFC needed a big headliner for this important MSG card since Conor wants his fight with Khabib to be in vegas likely due to the extra tax he would pay fighting in New York and with a returning Diaz vs Poirier guaranteeing them a sellout crowd and min. 500k PPVs as well as a potential fight of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if Nate got an improved offer that he couldn't refuse against a top opponent who won't try and wrestle **** him to a boring decision and a win giving him an even bigger payday against the winner of Connor vs Khabib or even a call up if either get injured
Im a fan but they dont fight often enough, nick diaz seems happier fighting at home than in the octagon.
Poirier wins this imo. Should be a decent scrap initially but Poirier will be far to much for Nate as this stage of their respective careers.
Not sure i think if Diaz gets him down he submits Poirier, on the feet id say it could go either way depending on who lands the big shot first.
Part of me wants to see Nate fight, and is gutted if he has pulled out of fighting Poirier. All the while, another part of me is thinking "I'm not surprised..." So is Nate's walking out of the press conference just a case of him pouting because they were hyping Khabib vs Conor and not his fight with Poirier?
That's just Nate being Nate, the hard and the fun part of being a Diaz brothers fan is you just don't know what they will do because they really just don't seem to give a ****. I'm like you I just want to see them back in the cage before they waste to much more of there prime but I also wouldn't be surprised if there ends up being drama about Nates comeback.
Nate wants to be on the Conor - Khabib card, wants a part of those PPV money. Nate as a headliner, i don't think he sells more than 300k himself - and Poirier doesn't sell anything.
I've heard a lot of possible headliners for this card but I think if Holloway is cleared to fight him vs Ortega is possible or considering he hasn't given up the belt yet,Cormier defending the light-heavyweight title once more before fighting Brock is also a possibility. Considering all the fights all ready announced and who is out injured etc the only other names big enough to headline such a huge card would be GSP or if he is cleared Jon Jones maybe even at Heavyweight but if Cormier was to give up the 205lb title you could even have him against Gustaffson for the vacant title.
