Wasn't his chin that failed him. Most guys with iron chins would have been on ***** street from that shot to the temple/ear area.
What on earth have I missed, been asleep and first thing I read is this. Massive props to the person who called this yesterday, can’t remember who it was but What a call.
Oh FFS, Zak, are you still trotting out that old chin-checker drivel? Nov was done after the first KD. A big man put everything he had on a perfect shot that landed right on the temple. 99% of LHWS don't get up from that, and the other 1 %... Paulie Malinaggi could finish off. It wasn't Kov's chin that failed him, it was his defence. Or rather, his lack thereof.
This. Even Ray Mercer got knocked senseless when Briggs landed a flush shot on his temple when he got tied up in the ropes.
That's accurate. Kovalev got too used to fighting with his left hand below his nuts. Alvarez stayed balanced behind a tight guard even when under pressure and then was smart enough to see the flaw in Kov's defense and capitalize on it.
I'd like to see how you'd stand up to a straight right from Wilder, Zak. We'd see then who really has a glass chin.
The contention that "that punch would've KOd anybody" is simply unprovable. All we know is that it put Kovalev on ***** street and he was done. A far more plausible explanation, particularly giving his history of visiting the canvas, is that his mandible is fragile. Deny it all you want, my friend, but the fact is it does not appear that Kovalev has much punch resistance at this point. Time will tell, but that chin does not look too sturdy to me.
not china but bad chin, that was masked with great conditioning, great power, prime age. now that kovalev is past prime, his chin will start getting cought clean.
I always suspected Kovs chin was a little fragile seeing Duva kept him well away from punchers his whole career.
Pretty average chin yeah, nothing special about it and you could see the way he reacts when getting punched that his chin isnt granite.
It's shaky, no question. Kovalev is a case of a guy who's mandible was somewhat suspect before this, but has now had his shaky whiskers exposed for all to see. All except the glass jaw deniers, of course.
