One point here....Toney was drained at 160. MW was not his best level. He played high school football when he weighed 205 and I doubt at 18yrs old he had the Man Boobs he would grow later in life.

I picked Toney UD but it's possible GGG would be stronger and outmuscle Toney. At 168+ it's all Toney.

:eeek: Now I’m wondering why I didn’t take even a small punt on Toney, at that price...

    Hindsight is twenty-twenty, I guess.

Twenty-twenty on 20-1!!! Toney certainly hit the world stage out of no-where. I don't believe he was even rated in the Ring Top 10 when he beat Nunn.

GGG has a astery of the jab that Toney does not have and the pedigree to know when to punch and when to box

That's a decent argument and one that I happen to believe. Toney was not that great at 160 because of his lax habits and difficulty in making the weight. If he'd been a gym rat there might be some truth to this monster people are inventing at 160. He was to my mind more effective at higher weights.

Probably be a close decision either way. I could see Toney landing the eye catching combos in spots. I do think GGG would use his jab to score in the times when James doesn't want to punch.

Id lean towards Toney if he was in top shape. He is quicker and has the defense.

It's a competitive fight that likely goes the distance, where one's personal scoring preferences will go a long way in determining how you see the verdict. My pick is Tony on points, but I can definitely envision GGG performing to a level where he gets the nod.

    A what!!?? Isn't GGG from Kazakhstan:thinking: .

Look , Golovkin missed almost 500 of his punches according to Compubox . Total punches - 218/703. Thats huge and corroborates with what i said about Golovkin being ineffective with his workrate.
Don't blame me if facts hurt your feelings. I call it how it is.

And yet, Toney beat better competition at 160 than Golovkin has managed to, in an entire career in the division.

The only names that impress me are Nunn and McCallum and Toney barely beat them. Toney also struggled with fighters that Golovkin would have put in hospital before the 6th. Golovkin's resume has less bargain-basement filler in it, and GGG never struggled with his Sanderline Williamses.

Nunn and McCallum are levels above Jacobs and Alvarez, both of whom Golovkin struggled with and arguably lost to.
