This. Unless Kovalev works on his conditioning and fixes the defensive mistakes he was making he would just lose again. But, knowing Kovalev, who doesn't listen to anybody it's highly unlikely that he's going to improve at this point.

He was winning yes but I didn't feel comfortable watching him, there was a sense of inevitability even though he was clearly ahead

Go back and look. It was pretty scary and sad to see. I felt sorry for him actually.

I didn't get that sense at all. I though Kov had issues with Alvarez's speed and movememt in the first part of the fight but, made some adjustmemts and neutralized Alvarez's jab. As a result Alvarez wasn't being first, allowing Kov to dictate the pace and distance of the fight. Personally, I thought Alvarez was gonna get stopped in the next few rounds and then BAM, he lowered the boom on poor ol Kov. I feel bad for Kov but, I am laughing at all his sack sucking fanboys. These guys are some of the worst hypocritical,, hateful SOB's around!

Kovalev does even worse in rematches no thanks.

Dang good career but time to hang em up champ. Don't want shades of Walter Matthysse

I think Kov can beat Alvarez handily in a rematch. He got caught clean by a shot he didn't see, that Alvarez was throwing all fight. This is boxing, it happens! I say Kov rematches, wins, have the rubber match, win and retire. Of course, if he loses the rematch, retire.

He might win a rematch but still fight against Bivol or Beterbiev isnt going to bring him big money and Stevenson fight seems hard to make as always so may be rather retire instead.35 years old and getting slower also stamina and that russian coach lacks experience in the pro ranks too.

I dunno. Maybe if he trains right and lives right he can drag something back. Last night it looked like a lot of the skills were still there but the body betrayed him. He didn't look as defined as in the past either. The loss of punch resistance is a clear sign of physical decline, imho. That said, I think he should roll the dice once more though, just to be sure...

I'd like to see Kov finish on top. I think he deserves it. Damn good fighter who, on any given night, can KO any LHW in the world.

    Bollocks.

Lewis did not even climb off the floor once against Rahman, and he was the favourite in the rematch. And won it.

So the fact that he was KTFO does not mean there is no need for a rematch.

That said, I think we are seeing the twilight of the Krusher's career and the ascension of a new force in Alvarez, who I see as having the first legit W over a very formidable opponent.

he got caught clean because he was tired as **** just like in the second ward fight...Alvarez outboxed his head off the rounds kovalev won was because Alvarez allowed him to...even then i had it 3 round a piece after 6 with Kovalev clearly slowing down.

As he was going down too, just watched it..Kind of not what you want to see even though its boxing..Totally done wasn't he..Watched the whole fight again and it does seem blatant that he's past it..He was getting subtly hurt before the KO

Yeah, I agree, Kov's stamina does let him down and getting dropped by 2 guys not known for power does place doubt in peoples minds.
