Just want to start out by saying I like Stan Ward. Stand up guy and a true man. And I can not stand Ellie Sechbach or whatever that pud's name is.

Almost everyone I know who was raised in the 70's absolutely despises Mike Tyson for one simple reason: they know deep down that Iron Mike was better than anything out of the Golden Era of heavyweight boxing.

I just pierced all your brains with your nose bone...

Lol these tyson lovers never will learn.
Tyson himself was asked about him vs great legends and his answers were the next:
Joe louis: tyson said that he would beat louis
Ali: tyson said that Ali wins
George foreman: " mmmm i don't know oh that might be close"
If tyson himself was not sure about if he could beat foreman the opinion of his fans is not relevant at all

Sure he would be ranked in the top ten. Heavyweight Champion doubtful. Only if he got a shot against a very past prime Ali, Past prime Frazier, Spinks or Norton do I see him winning the championship. But almost all the threats he'd face their major strength is his biggest weakness. Right handed bombers , but unlike the ones that knocked him out, were really aggressive. Like Shavers, Lyle, and Foreman. So he probably would have more stoppage losses in the 70's than he ended his career with during his era.

The only boxer deceased at the time Tyson was asked that question on ESPN or whatever sports station that was, was Joe Louis. Ali and Foreman were still alive. Tyson even said the Rocky Balboa who fought Ivan Drago would beat him. Tyson is one humble man when it comes to evaluating boxers still alive.

I think the guys of Lewis era generally hit harder than the much smaller heavyweights of the 70s

Seriously.... The most horrible argument ever.
So he was humble with Ali,only a little humble with foreman (maybe foreman was semi died it is why he had doubts with the answer) and nothing at all with louis. Lmao

Stan was a very articulate fighter. He studied undergraduate psychology. With proper management he could of achieved so much more.

Dude, seriously. I admit talking to some Tyson fans can be frustrating at times. But having a decent conversation with a Foreman fan is outright ludicrous. You never come out any smarter while your intelligence level diminishes.

Both men had flaws. Peak for peak, Tyson lasted longer and was seen as second only to Ali and in the Top 3 pantheon along with Louis at one time after bludgeoning Spinks. Foreman's prime lasted, what, 3 fights? The dude's record is padded, in both careers, from here to eternity. He did very well but comparing both men and their resume's depth, Tyson is far and away the better fighter and, from head to toe, has the better names on his resume.

Head to head Foreman wishes he had the ability to take Tyson out one punch at a time. No way. Never happens.

    Horrible management.

He was a sparring partner for the prime Foreman. And back then, George was notorious for going off on sparring partners. Then he was matched tough---like the Lyle fight. He had minimal experience to be taking on a guy like that. I actually thought he deserved the decision.

But the wear and tear factor between sparring and fighting top competition really does wear a lot of guys out early. Just think of how long say a contemporary like a Bobick does wearing those shoes. Then put Stan Ward against those early opponents Duane fought.
