Now that Kovalev looks finished, just how good was he?

How do we remember the career of Kovalev

Not HOF, not by a long shot. Had he legitimately defeated Ward, then Alvarez, then either Beterbiev or The Pimp, THEN he's in the conversation.

He has (had) too many weaknesses that were exploited. Couldn't deal with hand speed, for example.

If I had been his trainer, I would have made him watch all of Dempsey's video. Both guys were about the same size and were punchers. I would have made Kovalev duck his head up and down like Dempsey did, because he had NO HEAD MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER. That's why he got caught last night...it was an easy target.

Hopkins and FMJ where notorious PED users and great matchmakers hence the longevity.

To be frank, Kovalev's resume isn't all that good. A Stevenson fight a few years ago would have given it more depth. When a 48 year old is your best win, that isn't saying much.

Very good at LHW, was arguably #1/2 along with Stevenson for a few years.
    But never a P4P elite.

Very good in his prime. He had some bad habits in and out of the ring which ended up costing him but he was very good when he was at his best and he ''did it the hard way'' by fighting on the road or going to his opponent's backyards where the deck was stacked against him and your chances of losing by hook or by crook are much higher than if you're fighting at home on a playing field that is heavily weighted in your favour.

No but when your best win is Bernard Hopkins that is saying something. For most people in history he'd be their best win.

Golovkin will get one of these threads this September and I will laugh. Some of you already have jumped ship and now ride BJS. You ship rats are evolving. But know this. Golovkin is worse than Kovalev.

Just like when you jumped off the Broner, Berto, Quillin, Kirkland, Eubank Jr. bandwagons?

Well, i dont mind extending great past the top 10. At is best, he show great power and timing. However when thoses assets dont work he does not seems very good at adjusting is strategy or style.

That's a hell of a standard in terms of the drop-off between the two options.

A big problem I see with Sergei's resume is that I don't think he actually ever beat anyone as good as Alvarez. (Save the Ward 1 arguments.)
