Now that Kovalev looks finished, just how good was he?

How do we remember the career of Kovalev

  1. A great (top ten divisional history) fighter

  2. A not great (outside of top ten divisional history) fighter

Wins over an ole BHop and never was Jean Pascal do not put him in the HOF, IMO.

Good fighter - but lost *by KO* to the best opposition he faced - is exactly how the Tomato Kan Krusher should be remembered...

Kovalev doesn't have the resume of an elite fighter.

Foster fought in the era of the same day weigh in. What happens to Kovalev when he has to make 175 *and* fight 15 rounds without time to rehydrate?

    Foster by viscous KO...

Moorer would have folded Kovalev like an accordion. Too much of *everything* @ 175lbs...

I don't see it. I think Kovalev might be knocked out by a counter left hook.

He might’ve been a heavyweight under those circumstances...kind of my point. Foster could not beat any heavyweight according to his career.

We're not talking about heavyweights. We're talking about light heavyweights. If Kovalev fought in Foster's era, same day weigh in - 15 rounds, the Tomato Kan Krusher gets sparked by Foster @ 175lbs...

I have no clue if Kovalev could do same day 175 weigh ins. Foster likely ends up on his ass under today’s rules.

if you eliminate Hearns and Jones, the two elites he fought, he has a good record. For a guy who pretty much fought with his left hand, he was good

I just made a post in another thread where it kinda looks like I don't like Kovalev..sayin he isn't HOF worthy and ****...but I am definitely a big fan. I never once picked against him in any of his fights...I knew he was hittable and he had mediocre stamina...but I bet on his power seein him through the challengers available. I thought he clearly won the first Ward fight and if you think he wasn't hit low 77 times in the rematch you're kidding yourself. That being said I'm struggling to put him anywhere close to the top 10 LHW ever. I think there are quite a few LHWs from the past that would absolutely demolish Sergey. Roy Jones Jr. woulda made him look like a fool. Michalczewski
had his number too. Jump Calzaghe up to LHW a few years younger and he has his number too. And those are only guys from the 90s. LHW has had a murderer's row of talent over the years. So yeah he's not in the top 10...probably not even the top 25. But I'll still pay to watch him knock mother****ers out til he retires.

He doesn't have that good a record though, that's the problem.

Jones is a better LHW, losing to him is no drama. But losing to Hill is a big drama.
