My favourite fighter of the 2010's, a supremely skilled offensive fighter, but he should have learned a better defence whilst he was in the USA, or survival skills. When alvarez downed him, he could have survived that round if he didnt go back on his front foot, Alvarez looked extremely strong however and was fighting very well. Kovalev was wasting alot of punches hitting gloves and his stamina isnt up to it anymore, he used to be a better counterpuncher when walked down, his punches seemed to have lost the snap, probably due to bad conditioning. He is still very dangerous, but everyone knows what to do now, a shame he went out like this but what a fighter he was, he put the a strong sense of fear into his opponents when he was peak and i loved his style, a outstanding jab and straight right with destructive power, good bodypuncher, great pivots on the attack and terrific timing. He has been the most entertaining fighter of the 2010's for me, always a must watch fighter with a cool dangerous character who had some great phrases, he dominated LHW strongly and emphatically, just what boxing needed at that time! WE all will have to wait some time for another KRUSHER! Well done to Eledier Alvarez aswell you proved your mettle and power. But ultimately Good luck Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev for whatever you do, You will be missed!
his approach to fights hurt him more than he will ever realize, and thats due to his lack of self awareness. hes the type of guy that knows better than you... about everything. i loved watching him fight, though, and thats most of what i want from my prize fighters.
Always sad to see the end of a favorite fighter. Even if this isn't the end of his career, this is the end of him as the feared Krusher. He was a joy to watch, an absolute wrecking machine for a few years. Very few fighters walk into the sunset without taking a loss or two along the way.
Kovalev was one of the most, if the most, exciting fighter to watch at some point. Alvarez did a good job. His coach was willing to loose almost all the round in order to put more pressure on the second half of the fight, where Kovalev is less dangerous. At the beginning of the seventh round, Ramsay told Alvarez to start being f.in rough with Kovalev.
Nope, drinking vodka is fine and calling a world lhw king a hometown bully is as stupid as it gets, even for a peabrain like you.
I don’t think it’s completely over for him. SK was a complete bad a$$ that provided that early 80s Mike Tyson appeal. I’m sure there’s more involved when truly dissecting every granular aspect of his makeup. Becoming a hard man also requires tons of humbling experiences, SK grew up hard but the difference here is instead of navigating and pivoting to overcome hurdles he just took them head on and that strategy can take a toll on your sense of reality. He was tough, cold, calculated and unrelenting however he lacked that grit and strategic awareness required when your plan a,b and c aren’t working according to plan.
For what? They can call me a coke head? Or they can bully other fighters but if i say something you are gonna report me? Thats a super double standard
Agreed fully, perfect description, he had some real natural gifts and his boxing skills were top notch, he definitely could of chose to learn to fight more stragetically, defensively and conserving, but with his demeanour and with his success he loved going for the kill and punishing his opponents.
