Sergey Wants IT — Who Wins The Rematch?!?!

I actually disagree he was being broken down. other than round 4. round 5 and 6 were pretty close and Alvarez never stopped fighting, hell in the 4th he stood his ground and ate Kovalevs punches. So, yeah didn't see it was Alvarez was getting broke down and beat up and got lucky.

 

Voting largely from the heart but I think Kovalev can pull it off the 2nd time around.

 

Although there may be examples of fighters who get KO'd, then comeback to win in a rematch, it's a tree you should not bark at again.

 

The problem with the rematch is Alvarez probably got better as a fighter and Kovalev has not, and that punch will eventually land again. That was a setup punch, it was not like a Curry/McCallum or Barkley vs. Hearns.

 

Everybody wants certain things but something called "external factors" and even internal ones prevent many from getting what they want. Kovalev is an old, washed up and broken down shell of what he once was -- a very offensively gifted boxer--puncher with some excellent god given tools and great natural ability who owned some of the worst intangibles, training habits, personal demons/substance abuse problems, mental states and mental makeup of almost any fighter in the last 40--50 years at least, not to mention a severe lack of heart, determination, dedication to sport and craft, and supreme inability to accept personal responsibility for when things didn't go his way and straight up impossibility to give other fighters credit if they had any success against him so he also never really learned a ****ing thing since his amateur days. One of the few people I've ever seen where I actually act way more mature than and am nowhere near as big a habitual jackass mentally than. All things considered you have to be pretty impressed with the career he had regardless of how much skill, natural talent, and gifts he was born with, because on all other areas he has the attributes of fighters that usually go 0-45. Oh, and I even forgot to mention his pathetic gas tank, and glass everything, and ovaries instead of testicles. I mean, he was a world champion ffs, yet will never understand the concept or definition of the word "fortitude." Not bad Kovey, ya did alright everything considered.

But lets be real, he don't wanna get stretched by this dude again and end up on even more wall posters. He wants to drink vodka and never hear the annoying voice of another "trainer" ever again.

I agree with what you are saying in part as well. The 4th Alvarez survived, he started the round without moving his legs and traded. He got hurt bad, but stayed active on shaky legs.

in the 5th he dished out a great recovery round, i gave it to him, but he clearly was the prey.

The 6th was close, but Kovy stung him a few times and feel into counter mode and thats how he got squashed in the 7th because he sucks at it.

Still E.Alvarez upset is so big, he is a non factor in post fight discutions. To me there is no bigger proof he pulled of the upset of 2018. And its never a fluke.

 

I think it goes a little longer, and Alvarez doesn't get the definitive knockout like he did in the first fight but I do see Alvarez forcing a stoppage (TKO) around the 8th or 9th rounds.

 

Lennox got knocked out and came back to win the rematch, but he wasnt as old as Kovalev was.

 

If it's in the contract then I guess it will happen but I don't think that Kovalev should get a rematch. I don't want to see him. He is a whiner and don't do any better in rematches. Alvarez needs to chase his dreams onward and upward. Kovalev is in his rear view mirror.

 

It seems like Kovalev does want it, but will there be a rematch? His trainer has said that it was not in the contract...

I'm having a hard time thinking of another elite semi-famous boxers that were as bad at the business end of things as Kovalev. A rematch clause is all but standard in the champions contract, because **** does happen.

 

If it's true (there were no rematch clause) it's Kathy Duva's fault, not Sergey's.

 

But shouldn't he be on her to make sure that clause is put in the contract? You'd never see ODLH or Mayweather allowing Bob Arum to not make sure they were protected in case of upset.
