This is a reckless and irresponsible move from Frank Warren. As a promoter he is supposed to be looking after his fighter's best interests. Not forgetting Fury is a man who has overcome serious depression and drug addiction. He has been out of the ring for too long and allowed his body to get grossly out of shape. This isn't a game. Putting Fury in with a murderous puncher like Wilder is a serious risk to his health, both mentally and physically. Fury's bravado isn't enough to convince me that he's ready to face Wilder. Neither Seferi or Pianeta are adequate preparation. This is a cynical money grab by Frank Warren and little else.
If Fury pulls this off and beats Wilder in 2018 I’d say it would surpass what he did against Klitchko. Warren is def agreeing to it for the ££££ because when you can protect the likes of Dubois and ***** Cat In the house as much as he has you’d think he would have done the same for Fury and waited for at least 2019 to get Fury a shot with a few more fights under his belt. For me taking this fight in 2018 could be a step too far too soon and looking at how bad he was against the dwarf I’d say he’s gonna potentially get sparked. Talk is cheap but once reality sets in I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t get a pullout pre fight with a reschedule in 2019! Good luck to Tyson though but I can’t help feeling his new team aren’t better than his old based on this decision.
If Fury keeps his foot on the gas after this fight he should be in great shape by the end of the year. I think this is perfect timing and Wilder is tailor made for Fury who is probably the only active heavyweight that can go 12 rounds without taking a single heavy punch. I can see a boxing lesson and a stoppage or retirement, Wilder will be frustrated and exhausted by the end of the fight
Fury is rolling the dice i believe hes cashing out DW will batter him inside a few rounds and that will be the last time we see Fury in a ring
First and foremost, it’s down to Tyson and his team (remember he is managed by MTK) to advise frank about where he is physically and mentally and if he feels ready for such a dangerous assignment. Tyson knows the risks involved, I’m not a fan of his but he is an experienced man/fighter and if he has looked Frank in the eyes and told him to make the fight, then you cannot blame frank for trying to pull the trigger. We know Eddie would be doing the same, I mean he didn’t hesitate to stick Brook in against GGG even though everybody knew it would be a brutal beating. Also, to be honest, Tyson and Hennessy when he was involved have shat on frank so many times in the past (I.e going behind his back to do a deal with Klitschko instead of doing the purse bid and cutting frank and BN completely out) I really wouldn’t have a problem if he has decided to do the best he can for himself and BT by doing the fight.
There's also the fact Warren might be keen to do this just simply to get one over on Hearn. It's a big gamble but I reckon Fury needs a big opponent to keep him motivated or he'd lose track and end up losing a Chisora trilogy. That said I have to lean towards Wilder as favourite on this.
Since when is a boxing promoters job to “look after his fighters best interests” I must have missed that one It couldn’t be a direct quote lifted from the mouth of Eddie Hearn then parroted verbatim by a boxing fan could it? Surely not
Had to reply to this. This in my opinion is all Tyson Fury's doing. Not Frank's. We all know his comeback is purely to cash out as Fury isn't clever enough to disguise his intentions like other boxers can and taking this fight so soon just confirms it. He probably believes he won't make it to the big money fights if he keeps on fighting improving opposition as he'll be found out, so why not grab it while you can. Even Eddie Hearn said the reason why he couldn't get Fury to sign was because the level of opponents he was choosing and the money he wanted for them were not in sync at all. I also seriously doubt the the legitimacy of Tyson's depression problems and the only drug he was addicted to was either nandrolone or cocaine. The whole cover up by the Furys was a big 2 year sham. If Tyson had Peter back in his corner, Peter would have been smart enough to guide him through to the big fights properly. As he's not, Tyson is going for the jugular now and he probably knows in his heart of hearts that he needs way more time to get up to the level of AJ and Wilder but he just doesn't want to hang around too long so for him to take the Wilder fight in Dec, you can't put that blame on anyone but him.
You guys are overlooking a few things here. 1. Fury beat the man that beat all the other men. He's lineal champ. He's had a long lay off and went back in with 2 tune ups...poor comeback opponents mean poor motivation and mentality. Top boxers like fury are only at the peak of their game when fighting other top contenders. In other words he ain't gonna look great smashing up some bums, nor does he care. When he gets back in the ring with another top ranked guy, you will see the peak fury. The wilder fight will give fury tons of motivation and he will not take his eye off the ball. 2. Wilder can easily be out boxed. Fury is an excellent boxer...and bigger. 3. Form is temporary...class is permanent.
I got every confidence in Fury to win this fight. Wilder will have never seen nothing like Fury. As long as he’s in shape and training hard.
To early for Fury unless hes wayyyy better than we have seen. He could earn more fighting a few more come back fights and then fighting AJ. It might be a few mill is worth him taking a chance for. Not the best way to make millions. He's 29.Got loads of time.Do a Wilder, easy fights, until the AJ fight comes off. A few mill or 20 mill??
If Fury is on the con with this comeback like a nice gypsy man who knows? Looking to get a nice easy wedge and then disappear back into obesity and lines of coke in £20 notes then this actually makes perfect sense. Otherwise it’s madness.
Quite funny that we all kick off that fights never get made. Then potentially one of the biggest fights of the year will get made and we all have a royal moan up. It may be too soon but how on earth do we know. I just want to see this fight now. At first I thought there was 0 chance of it happening, now I think it will
