With epic wins over Corrals, Lazaro and Johnston under his belt. Double WBC holder and ring belt holder at welterweight in itself would've been enough to induct Jose into the hall of fame.

Yet his biggest scalp is very rarely mentioned. Floyd " joy " Mayweather as he was know then. Joy, with the absence of any saline and in physical peak was soundly beaten by Castillo.

Castillo as defending champ threw more, landed more and controlled the tempo of the fight through only to be robbed of his WBC belt.

His left hooks, to body and head were legendary as well his technically perfect uppercuts which ripped through defenses.

It's time that this legend. The first man to deal Mayweather a loss should be recognized in the HOF and as ATG.

Man who could have been king, had he not been robbed by the politics and money of baaing.

We, as boxing fans owe him to never forget a man....

    El terrible we salute you

Having a close fight with Floyd isn't really enough to get someone in the HOF imo. Maidana also had a close fight with him.

You are right, an argument can be made that Maidana won his fight too.

Castillo wore out his welcome by missing weight a bunch of times. Had he actually completed a 135 trilogy with Corrales without missing weight and then gone to war with Hattin, he’d be in the discussion.

By the present day standards he borderline deserves a nod; could justifiably swing either way (same as in Mayweather I :deal:)

If gatti can get in, I don't see why a fighter like Castillo can't?

Common sense says he's close to qualifying, but no he shouldn't get in the IBHOF.

However if Virgil Hill and Winky Wright can get in, no reason Jose Luis Castillo shouldn't be there too.

Common misconception but it's EL TEMIBLE not EL Terrible(as in Erik Morales).

    Interesting thread though.

Virgil Hill has like 25 title defenses at 2 weight classes and I think 3 reigns as champ.. Come on.

He also beat Czyz, Tate, Maske, Glen Thomas, Mormeck, Leslie Stewart. He was a hall of fame fighter very consistent.
