My thoughts exactly. Castillo’s blatant unprofessionalism against Chico slams the door shut on his candidacy. I think he never intended to make weight in the 2nd fight and figured he’d gain an advantage by allowing Corrales to kill himself to make weight.

 

But, but, but, Gatti was exciting. Plus it helps Gatti that that racist POS Mark Wahlberg, shameless Boston homer that he is, made that movie about Mickey Ward...thereby increasing Gatti’s profile with casual fans who know very little about boxing.

 

Yeah, and Corrales was never the same after that fight. Their first fight could’ve been what did the damage, but getting knocked out five months later was exactly what Chico didn’t need.

 

I identified a fourth problem, neither actually beat Mayweather.

The fights were arguable but in both cases Mayweather rematched and won clearly to establish supremacy.

 

By modern standards his getting in his hardly an outrageous thought. Gatti is in FFS. Still rallying behind a Moorer inclusion. He did more than enough, even with or without the abysmally low modern standard.
